The team at universal made our re roof as painless and seamless as possible. David did a great job at the initial inspection in setting our expectations for the project, and Stefan and Karson did an amazing job with communication prior to and during the actual project. We also had an insurance deadline that they kept top of mind and prioritized for us. Highly recommend this team if you are in need of a re roof, or any roofing projects in Jax. Highly professional and on top of things throughout the entire process.

Paul and his team at Universal are the best! From no pressure free roof inspections to repairs or full replacements, they are extremely knowledgeable and treat everyone with the utmost respect. I highly recommend them.
I contacted Universal Roof and Contracting as well as 4 other local roofing companies to get an estimate for a new roof on my 3300 square foot older home located in the San Jose area of Jacksonville. I knew very little about roofs except that my house was in dire need of a new one! Marty Liles, Universal's agent, was the second person to come to my house and provide me with an estimate. He was by far the best of the 5 representatives. I found Marty extremely knowledgeable, very helpful and easy to work with. Marty wasn't just sent to my house to measure for a new roof and get back to me with a price. He took his time to explain the differences in products and recommended what he thought was appropriate for my house and my needs. Needless to say when I received and compared the five bids I was confused! Marty was the ONLY representative that offered to come back to my house and explain the differences in the proposals that I had received. He basically differentiated between the apples and the oranges so to speak. I had a comfort level with Marty that I did not feel with the other sales associates. Based upon this visit by Marty I chose Universal for my new roof. The bottom line price ended up being comparable to the lowest bid I had received. Now I was ready for the work to be done. The roof was scheduled to be installed about 2-3 weeks from the date that I committed to Universal. I dealt with Ben Daniels, project manager for Universal. He was very professional and also easy to work with. Ben set the expectations for the roof installation at 2 full days. On the day the roof was be installed about 8 guys showed up in the front of my house at 6:45am along with Ben. I think that by 7am they were working at replacing my old roof with a brand new one. They worked straight through until lunchtime. After the break for lunch they started back to work and after approximately 30 minutes it started to rain. The workers covered the house with tarps so that no harm would come to what had been done thus far. Instead of calling it a day, the roofers stayed at my house until the rain blew over about 20 minutes later. At about 3pm another 4 workers joined the 8 that were already working at my house. They all stayed ( 12 guys!) until the job was completed. By that time I had several neighbors, who had just got home from work, come over to check things out. Not one of my neighbors could believe that such a large roof was installed in just 1 day! Not to mention that the new roof looked great and enhanced the beauty and value of my home. All I can say is that I had a terrific experience with Universal and my new roof! I would highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a new roof or repair. I found Universal to be a highly reputable company with employees who were professional and customer friendly. Five stars!
Extremely helpful from quote to finish. Communication with Daniel was great. Always got right back immediately with questions answered. Hard working professionals. Cleanup was awesome. Highly recommended. Thank you to Daniel, Jarod, and all involved.
Dear Homeowner in need of a review. Let me be the voice of reason for this important home project. We interviewed upwards of 12 companies. No kidding. We went through a host of emotions trying to figure out who we could trust, who would do quality work, who was affordable and who would provide us with what we so badly needed- a sturdy roof. I originally worked with Charles H. Quality!!!! Man. Quality Professional!!! As the job was coming to an end I met Eddie Alacan- A Blessing with a Capital B. Just good solid Men with integrity. Universal will get All of our Business. Hands down- The Best!!
It was a pleasure to work with Universal Roof and Contracting and Danny was more than helpful. He got us taken care of quickly and the job was done right the first time. Highly recommend and would not hesitate to use them in the future!
Sean Dowel was an impressive appraiser and adjusted, he talked the talk, but also walked the walk. Of the 5 inspectors I had he was the only one who went into the attic and checked if my current ventilation even met the standards of the product. He was quick, communicated well and did an amazing job representing their company, product and services. They are obviously not the cheapest company, but when getting something as important as a roof I'd rather pay a little more for it to be done right than to have corners cut.
I called Universal Roof to repair a leak betwee a metal roof and an asphalt roof. It required asphalt shingles be removed so a waterproofing system could be applied. The work was started on time but due to rain and lightning the work was stopped for the day. When the waterproofing system was completed. Heavy rains were forcasted so the General Manager, Brandon, and a two man crew came out at 6 pm on a Friday night to replaced the shingles that were removed before the heavy rains came. The problem area has been sucessfully repaired in a timely manner by the skillfull craftsmen of Universal Roof & Contracting. It is now 2022. My roof is showing signs of wear. I called Universal Roof& Contracting, Charles came out took ample time to accurately assess what work that would be needed and gave an estimate. All the scheduling was put in place. The crew showed up on time and immediately spread tarps around the house to protect my bushes and and plants and catch any roof debris. They did their work in a professional manner, they were polite and courteous and completed the work in one day. After the work was complete the crew spent a long time cleaning up, picking up bits of paper, and searching for nails with magnets. From the start the Project Manager kept me informed of what was found after the old shingles were removed and the best way to address each situation. Attention to detail describes how this crew performed their work from the moment they started to the moment they got in their vehicle to leave. My roof looks just like the ones you see in the brochures.
Just got an estimate so far, being it's a roof replacement I'm getting several stimates. So far this company was the most professional, 6/15, roof complete, couldn't be happi

Universal Roof & Contracting serves Ponte Vedra Beach with every major roofing service — repair, replacement, inspections, storm response, gutters, and all four mainstream roof systems — from our Northeast Florida office. Family-owned since 1993, BBB-accredited with an A+ rating, and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred. This page is the whole picture in one place; every section links to the full service behind it.
What Ponte Vedra Beach Does to a Roof
Every roofing decision in Ponte Vedra Beach traces back to three forces, and the numbers behind them show why installation quality matters here.
Sun
Strong sun breaks down shingle asphalt and fades finishes over time, so Florida roofs need regular checks.
Salt
Atlantic salt air corrodes exposed metal fasteners, flashing, and gutter seams. Corrosion-resistant materials matter this close to the coast.
Storms
Summer squall lines and the occasional named storm bring hard, wind-driven rain that finds every weak detail.

Roof Repair in Ponte Vedra Beach
Roof trouble in Ponte Vedra Beach rarely announces itself. It starts as one lifted shingle or a slow drip at a flashing joint — and the difference between a cheap fix and a big one is how soon someone looks.

Our repair crews cover St. Johns County year-round. We fix what you called about, then check the surrounding field, flashing, and penetrations so a second surprise isn't waiting. If a repair is all your roof needs, that's what we'll tell you.
For active leaks we handle emergency calls: tarp or temporary seal first, then a documented permanent repair once weather clears — with photos of what we found and what we did.
Wind-lifted tabs
One good gust finds every marginal fastener. Small patch now, or decking work later.
Granules in the gutters
Shingle surfaces shedding — the field is aging, and it's time to watch it.
Ceiling stains
By the time water shows inside, it's been traveling the deck for a while. Call now, not next month.
Flashing and fastener wear
A common leak point, and one Florida weather works on early.
Roof Replacement
What actually drives a replacement quote — and how concealed damage is handled if tear-off uncovers it.

A completed Universal replacement — one to three days on most homes.
The quote you get is an itemized scope, not a number on a business card — and it's built from what your roof actually needs: tear-off depth, decking condition, the material system, and the flashing and ventilation details that decide whether a roof reaches its rated life. As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor, our warranty options go beyond what the standard tiers allow.
Around the First Coast, we schedule replacements ahead of storm season where the calendar allows, bundle roof-edge work when it makes financial sense, and finish most homes in one to three days — protected landscaping and a magnet-swept yard included.
Size, pitch & complexity
Cut-up roofs with dormers and valleys take longer than simple gables — and price accordingly.
Tear-off & decking
How many layers come up, and what the decking looks like once exposed. You approve anything it reveals.
The material system
Shingle, metal, tile, or slate — specified for Florida exposure, not upsold.
Flashing & ventilation
The details that separate a code-minimum job from one that reaches its rated life.
Every Ponte Vedra Beach replacement starts with the free inspection.
Roof Inspections
Check your roof twice a year, in spring and fall, plus after any major blow. Our inspection is free, documented, and pressure-free.
Field & fasteners
Wear, granule loss, and fastener condition across the whole covering.
Flashing & penetrations
Common leak points, so we check every boot, valley, and transition.
The roof edge
Soffit, fascia, and gutters for rot, separation, and pest entry.
The attic side
Moisture staining, ventilation problems, and daylight where there shouldn't be any.
Coastal corrosion
Salt-air wear on fasteners and flashing gets extra attention on every coastal roof.
What you get is a documented condition file: photos, findings, remaining-life assessment, in writing, free. We built the process for homeowners across the First Coast who want evidence instead of sales pressure — many inspections end with a clean bill and a watch list, and the report belongs to you either way.

Storm Damage in Ponte Vedra Beach
Ponte Vedra Beach faces the Atlantic side of Florida's storm ledger — Matthew, Irma, and Nicole all left marks on this coast. After it passes, a five-minute ground check tells you whether to call.
01 Stay off the roof
Post-storm decks hide soft spots. Everything below can be checked from the ground.
02 Field, ridge, edges
Scan all three from the yard — wind works the perimeter and peaks hardest.
03 Gutters tell the truth
Granules, torn shingle pieces, detached sections — the evidence collects there.
04 Inside, look up
Ceiling corners and closets show water first, sometimes days later.
05 Date, photograph, call
Your ground photos plus our documented assessment make the complete record.
Nicole
November landfall at Vero Beach; storm surge and beach erosion damage up the east coast to Jacksonville (NOAA/NHC TCR AL172022)
Matthew
paralleled the northeast Florida coast; significant wind and surge damage from the Space Coast to Jacksonville (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142016)
Irma
more than 7,000 homes damaged in Brevard County; hurricane-force gusts and record flooding around Jacksonville (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017)
We bring same-week assessments across St. Johns County, emergency tarping when the roof needs immediate protection, and a written, photographed damage report — what happened and what fixing it involves, no scare tactics. Material choice is storm strategy too: every system carries its own tested wind rating, so we show you the rating for the exact product before you choose.
Residential Roofing
The right roof for a Ponte Vedra Beach home follows the house, the owner's horizon, and the budget across thirty years — not the material a salesman happens to carry.

We install every mainstream system — shingle, metal, tile, and flat — so the recommendation follows your house and budget, not whichever material a contractor happens to sell. The full comparison is below.
The house & neighborhood
Age, style, and what the street is built around — a roof has to belong where it lives.
Your ownership horizon
Selling in five years and staying thirty produce different right answers.
Budget, now vs. 30 years
Upfront cost against lifetime cost — repairs, energy, and how many more roofs you'll buy.
Installation quality
The same materials last longer or fail early depending on underlayment, ventilation, and flashing work.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Commercial Roofing
A commercial roof in Ponte Vedra Beach protects inventory, equipment, and people, and it is built under the Florida Building Code, rated among the strongest of the hurricane-coast states by IBHS.

Think in decades, not years: compare lifetime cost, not just this quarter's price. TPO's energy efficiency, metal's wind performance, and modified bitumen's proven simplicity each earn their place depending on the deck, the budget, and how long you plan to hold the building.
Our maintenance plans put inspections, drain clearing, and membrane repairs on a schedule for St. Johns County buildings — with the documentation trail kept current, which matters at sale time and any time the roof's history gets examined.
The 25% rule
If more than 25% of a roof section is repaired or replaced within 12 months, the whole section must meet current code, unless the roof was built to the 2007 Florida Building Code or later.
Licensing & permits
Commercial roof repairs and installations require a Florida-licensed contractor, and most need a permit from the local building department.
System choice
TPO for energy efficiency; metal for hurricane resistance and lifespan; modified bitumen where the deck calls for it.
Maintenance cadence
Annual and post-storm inspections, clear drains, prompt membrane repairs — where commercial roofs are won or lost.
Gutters, Soffit & Fascia
Gutters, soffit, and fascia do unglamorous work — and in Ponte Vedra Beach they take the weather's first hit, every single day.

Fix the contained stuff, replace the far-gone stuff, and bundle edge work with any roof replacement — one mobilization instead of two. Seamless aluminum gutters carry our rainfall with the fewest joints to fail; vinyl soffit and aluminum fascia resist what the air here does to lesser materials.
Soft or spongy fascia
The material underneath is already compromised — past the repair window.
Stains on exterior walls
Water escaping the drainage path and running where it shouldn't.
Sagging, overflowing gutters
Chronic overflow usually means repairs are no longer keeping up.
Rust at the seams
Sectional gutters fail at their joints — seamless aluminum has far fewer of them.

| System | Realistic Florida life | Wind rating (installed right) | Cost tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal (standing seam) | Varies by product; ask for the warranty term | Product-specific; we show you the rating | $$$ | Longevity, storms, energy bills |
| Architectural shingle | About 20 years | Class H shingles: rated for design wind speeds up to 194 mph | $ | Value, fast storm repairs |
| Tile (clay/concrete) | Over 50 years | High, code-driven | $$$ | Permanence, the Florida look |
| Metlok (only at Universal) | 50-year limited lifetime warranty | 180+ mph tested wind rating | $$$ | Longevity, high-wind exposure |
What moves every quote regardless of material: pitch and complexity, the product tier within the material, specialist labor where tile demands it, and structural reinforcement when weight requires it. Florida law also requires insurers to offer premium credits for wind-resistant construction features — a wind mitigation inspection documents what your roof qualifies for.

Ponte Vedra Beach Roofing Questions
How long do roofs last in Ponte Vedra Beach?
Shingle: about 20 years. Tile: more than 50 with care, per a National Association of Home Builders study. Metal depends on the product, so ask for its warranty term. Installation quality decides which end of the range your roof lands on.
Repair or replace — how do you decide?
Localized damage on a roof with life left: repair. Widespread wear, repeating leaks, or a roof near the end of its lifespan: replacement is often a better value than repeated patching. We put the recommendation in writing with photos so you can decide without pressure.
What should I do right after storm damage?
Photograph what you can see safely from the ground, note the date, and get a professional inspection before small openings become interior leaks. We handle emergency work across St. Johns County and put findings in writing with photos.
Can a handyman repair a roof in Florida?
Florida's licensing agency says no: roof repairs and roof installations require a state license. Before anyone touches your roof, verify the state license and the insurance behind it. We hold CCC057165 & CBC1258484 and full coverage.
What does a roof replacement cost in Ponte Vedra Beach?
It depends on five things: roof size and pitch, tear-off complexity, decking condition once opened, the material system you choose, and the flashing and ventilation details done right. Anyone quoting a number without seeing the roof is guessing. Our estimates are free, line-by-line, and based on an actual inspection.
Is the inspection really free?
Yes — photos, honest findings, and a written condition report, free, whether or not you hire us for anything. Many inspections end with 'you're fine, here's what to watch.'
How long does a roof installation take?
Typically one to three days for a residential replacement. Complexity adds time — tile systems, steep pitches, multiple layers coming off — and commercial jobs scale with the building. Either way you'll know the expected window up front.
What time of year is best for roof work here?
Any month works — this is Florida, and roofs can't wait on weather windows anyway. Given the choice, fall wins: easier on crews and materials, and the new roof is in place ahead of storm season rather than behind it.
