Soffit & Fascia Repair in Jacksonville

On the Northeast Florida coast the roof edge fails in a particular order: the fixings go first, then the board, then the deck behind it. Inland it's humidity and pine litter doing the work instead. Both are cheap to catch early and expensive to catch late.

Jim and Tracy and their whole crew are exceptional. Roofing is one of those jobs that 99% of all consumers have no clue. One must trust what they are told. So many of the roofers are full of you know what and sell you more than you need. Universal is the opposite. They tell you what you need and even suggest options that save money. They tell you the pros and cons of each alternative. I could go on and on however suffice it to say that Universal is the best.

Having a re-roof is a stressful time but I knew to call Universal Roofing Inc from my previous experience with them from my old address. It's a step-by-step process (weather permitting) which Tracy (V.P.) walked me through. From customer service, explanation of roof products, to permits and completion was less stressful having an experienced company... and roof looks great! Thank you Universal Roofing Inc.

Local conditions

Two different problems, one metro

From Atlantic Beach through Ponte Vedra to Fernandina, salt reaches fasteners and flashing years before it touches the material they hold. On the roof edge that means a fascia board still sound to look at, attached by fixings that have very little left. It is the reason a coastal eave can fail in weather that should not have troubled it.

Inland Duval and Clay have the humidity problem instead. September is one of the two wettest months of the year here, and humid air that never lets the eave dry between rains gives rot everything it needs. Pine litter sitting in a gutter directly above makes it worse by holding water against the board.

Both routes end in the same place, which is why we check the attic side as well as the outside. Damp sheathing at the eave is usually the first honest evidence that the edge has been failing for a while.

On Jacksonville homes specifically

What we actually find

01

Corroded fixings on coastal eaves

The Beaches to Fernandina. Boards that look fine, held by fasteners that are nearly gone.

02

September rot inland

One of the two wettest months, plus humidity that never lets the eave dry gives rot everything it needs.

03

Pine litter in the gutter above

Needles mat and hold water directly against the fascia rather than washing through.

04

Damp sheathing at the eave

Visible from the attic side, and usually the first honest evidence the edge has been failing a while.

What we do

Repair, replacement and ventilation

Fascia replacement

The board along the roof edge that carries your gutter — matched and refitted with correct drip edge.

Soffit repair

Panels under the overhang, including the vents your attic breathes through.

Ventilation correction

Clearing blocked intake so the attic loop actually works — often the cheapest fix on the list.

Pest and storm damage

Closing the gaps that let squirrels, birds and wasps into the roof cavity.

A common cause of fascia rot we find is a gutter that stopped coping. If yours overflows, backs up or has pulled loose, start with seamless gutters in Jacksonville — replacing the board without fixing the cause just resets the clock.

Jacksonville soffit & fascia questions

How much does soffit and fascia repair cost in Jacksonville?

It depends on the length of run affected, the height, and whether rot has reached the rafter tails. Coastal properties should also budget for upgraded fixings, which is what determines how long the repair lasts near the ocean. We inspect and quote in writing, free.

What's different about a coastal roof edge?

The failure order. Inland, the board rots and the fixings follow. On the coast, salt attacks the fasteners first — so the fascia can look perfectly sound while what's holding it up has very little left. A visual inspection alone will pass a coastal eave that's already failing.

Why does my eave rot when there's no leak?

Humidity, usually. September is one of Northeast Florida's two wettest months and the air here rarely lets an eave dry fully between rains. Add pine litter sitting in the gutter directly above, holding water against the board, and rot has everything it needs without a single drop coming through the roof.

Do you check the attic side too?

Always. Damp sheathing at the eave is normally the first honest evidence that the roof edge has been failing for a while, and it shows up inside before anything obvious shows outside. It's also how we tell whether the problem has reached the deck.

Do you cover the Beaches and St. Augustine?

Yes — Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra, Fernandina, St. Augustine, Orange Park and Palm Coast, across Duval, St. Johns, Clay, Nassau and Flagler counties.

Rot at the Jacksonville roof edge?

A free inspection covers the roof, the edge and the gutters together — photos, a written report, and an honest answer about how much actually needs doing.
