Not from a catalog

We didn't find Metlok. We developed it.

After 30+ years of putting roofs on Florida homes, we knew exactly what this climate does to every material on the market — and where each one gives out. So we built the roof those decades told us Florida actually needs.

Metlok is our own system: researched, tested and manufactured in-house, then installed by our own factory-trained crews. That single fact is the whole point — the company that designs and makes the panel is the company that installs it and warranties it. One name on the product, the workmanship and the warranty.

That's why you can only get Metlok through us. We're not a dealer. We're the maker.

Step inside the factory. We control quality from raw steel to the panel that goes on your roof — the kind of proof a catalog product bought and rebadged by someone else can never show you.

  • Pressed and finished from AZ50 galvalume steel
  • No subcontractor handoffs — our own factory-trained crews
  • The same company from raw steel to the final ridge cap

The engineering

What makes Metlok different from any roof you can buy

Close-up of the Metlok four-way interlocking panel edges

A patent-pending four-way interlock

Every panel mechanically locks to the next on all four sides — one continuous, weather-tight shell instead of a stack of overlapping pieces waiting for wind to find an edge.

AZ50 galvalume, not G90

We build Metlok from AZ50 galvalume — a more corrosion-resistant grade than the G90 used in most metal roofing. On a salt-air peninsula, that margin is the difference between decades.

Metlok pressed-steel panel in the shake profile

Metal strength at a fraction of the weight

About 108 pounds per square, against roughly 970 for concrete tile — far less dead load on your structure, with none of the cracking tile is prone to.

Finished Metlok pressed-steel roof against a blue Florida sky

Rated for 180+ mph, no exposed fasteners

Blind-nailed at a concealed headlap, so there's no fastener exposed to weather to back out or leak — and a wind rating built for the worst day of hurricane season.

One company makes it, installs it, and backs it.

Because we make Metlok and install it, the coverage isn't split between a manufacturer and a contractor who may not be around in ten years. Metlok roofs are backed by a 50-year limited lifetime warranty covering both labor and materials from the date of installation, and it transfers to the next owner if you sell (subject to transfer requirements). One name behind all of it.

Metlok, answered

What is Metlok?

Metlok is a pressed-steel roofing system that Universal Roof & Contracting engineered, tested and manufactures itself, then installs with its own factory-trained crews. It's flat, stamped painted-steel panels with a patent-pending four-way interlock — the strength and lifespan of metal with the look of slate, shake, shingle or barrel tile.

Why can I only get Metlok from Universal?

Because we developed it. Metlok isn't a product we buy from a catalog and resell — it's our own system, so the company that designs and manufactures the panel is the same company that installs it on your house. That's also why one warranty covers both labor and materials: a 50-year limited lifetime warranty from the date of installation, with no finger-pointing between a manufacturer and a contractor.

How long does a Metlok roof last?

Metlok is engineered to be the last roof your home needs, and it is backed by a 50-year limited lifetime warranty covering both labor and materials. Actual service life depends on installation, climate and maintenance. For comparison, an asphalt shingle roof is commonly expected to last around 20 years.

How much does a Metlok roof cost?

Metlok is a premium system, priced above standard shingle or metal — but it's a once-in-a-lifetime purchase rather than a recurring one. After a free inspection we give you a written, itemized quote for your specific home, and financing is available. The right way to compare it is on total cost over time. Comparing quotes? Our Florida roof buyer's checklist covers the five questions to ask any roofer.

Does Metlok really handle Florida hurricanes?

It's engineered for exactly this. Metlok carries a 180+ mph wind rating, with a four-way interlock and concealed, blind-nailed fasteners that leave no edge for wind to lift and no fastener exposed to weather.
