I am extremely pleased with my new roof. Tracy, Flett was wonderful during the process as was the office staff at Universal Roofing. It took a while to get the new roof in place. This was not their fault as tile is on back order. Tracy was proactive and kept me informed during the entire process. I am more than overjoyed with the outcome. The roof looks wonderful the process of taking off the roof and putting in the new roof was very easy. Tracy and his staff kept me informed during the entire process. If you need a new roof, I highly recommend their services!!!

Tile Roofs in Florida
Tile roofing is one of the most elegant — and most durable — roofs a Florida home can wear. Clay and concrete tile shrug off sun, rot and pests, last for decades, and give a home the timeless Mediterranean look nothing else quite matches. But tile can't be installed by just anyone: it's heavy, and it takes an experienced contractor to be sure your home can carry it. We've been setting clay and concrete tile here for more than 30 years.Universal Roof & Contracting is a family-owned Florida roofing contractor founded in 1993, with offices in Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville.

Mike Ramos was the project manager on my roofing job. He kept me informed every step of the project. He insured the work was completed properly and with minimal disruption to our life. I would highly recommend Mike and URC to my friends and neighbors. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic customer service. Kenneth was great. Very professional. Found problem within minutes and fixed. Would recommend for repairs and full roof replacement.
Universal Roofing just installed a beautiful new roof to our home. We have been so satisfied with them that this is the third time we have used this company throughout the years. Universal was so professional, knowledgeable and honest. The city inspector even mentioned that he was impressed with their work. We highly recommend hiring Universal for all of your roofing needs.
Full roof replacement: Outstanding and beyond our expectations; starting from initial contact, inspection, estimation-quote (itemized/detailed), work, and post project. Extremely professional team (Sean-Sales Manager, Daniel-Production Manager, Jarrod-project manager, and Marissa-Office manager, and the roof-crew). Highly recommend!

Why a tile roof can be the last one you buy
Decades of life, done right
Concrete and clay tile is one of the longest-lived roofs made — it can last 50 years or more with proper maintenance. For a lot of homeowners, a tile roof installed correctly is the last roof they ever pay for.
Pest-, rot- and weather-proof
Tile doesn't rot, it doesn't feed pests, and it doesn't mind Florida's sun and storms. It's one of the toughest materials you can put over your home on a peninsula that tests every roof.
Cooler home, lower bills
The EPA lists terra cotta tile as naturally cool, especially in lighter colors. We install ours over elevated battens with breathable bird stops, so air moves under the tile.
A look nothing else matches
Clay gives you the classic Mediterranean profile; concrete can mimic slate, shake or barrel in nearly any color. Either way, tile is the roof that makes a Florida home look like it belongs.
Tile roofs we've installed

Clay or concrete — which tile fits your home?
Clay tile
The classicThe timeless terracotta barrel look, fired from natural clay. It holds its color for the life of the roof and is the definitive Florida-Mediterranean profile — the one people picture when they picture a tile roof.
Concrete tile
More versatile and often more affordable than clay. Concrete can be molded and colored to mimic clay barrel, wood shake, or flat slate, so you get the tile lifespan in nearly any look your neighborhood calls for.
Flat vs. barrel profile
Barrel (the S-curve) reads traditional Spanish; flat tile reads cleaner and more modern. Both are available in clay or concrete — we'll bring samples so you can see the profile on your own roofline.
How long a tile roof lasts here
Tile is measured in decades, not years. A properly installed and maintained clay or concrete tile roof commonly lasts 50 years or more — the underlayment beneath it usually needs attention before the tile itself does. The difference between a tile roof that lasts and one that leaks is entirely in the installation: the deck, the underlayment, the battens and the flashing. That's the part we've spent 30+ years getting right.
50+ yrs
Typical tile lifespan
Installed by a contractor who's set tile for 30+ years
Tile is unforgiving of a bad install — its weight and its detailing punish shortcuts. We've been setting clay and concrete tile across Florida since 1993, we're Florida High-Wind Certified for tile, and every tile roof is backed by our workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer's tile warranty. On a roof meant to last 50 years, who installs it matters more than the tile.

Questions about tile roofing
How long does a tile roof last in Florida?
A properly installed clay or concrete tile roof commonly lasts 50 years or more. Tile is one of the longest-lived roofing materials made — the underlayment beneath it usually needs service before the tile does. Installation quality is what decides whether you reach that lifespan, which is why an experienced tile contractor matters so much.
Is clay or concrete tile better?
Neither is 'better' — they're different. Clay holds its natural color for the life of the roof and gives the classic terracotta look, and it's typically the premium option. Concrete is more versatile and often more affordable, and it can be molded and colored to mimic clay, slate or shake. We'll walk the trade-offs for your home and budget at your free inspection.
Can my home support a tile roof?
Sometimes a home built for shingle needs its structure evaluated before it can carry tile, because tile is significantly heavier. That's exactly why tile shouldn't be installed by just anyone — part of our inspection is confirming your home can support the roof before we ever quote it. If it can't as-is, we'll tell you what it would take.
Does tile really keep a house cooler?
Yes, especially in lighter colors. The EPA lists terra cotta tile as naturally cool, and we set ours over elevated battens with breathable bird stops so air moves under the tile.
How much does a tile roof cost?
After a free inspection we give you a detailed, highly accurate quote based on your roof's size, pitch, complexity, the exact tile system you choose, and labor. We offer multiple financing options, and the quote comes with a project timeline. Any change is documented and approved with you first. Comparing quotes? Our Florida roof buyer's checklist covers the five questions to ask any roofer.
Do you handle the permits?
Yes. Every area in Florida has its own permit requirements, and obtaining them shouldn't be your responsibility — we handle the permitting on every project.
How long will my roof installation take?
It depends on the size and complexity of your roof and the material. A straightforward replacement can be a few days; a large or complex roof takes longer. Your quote includes an estimated timeline.
