Seamless Gutters in Jacksonville

September is one of Northeast Florida's two wettest months and the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season at the same time. A gutter system that coped all summer is exactly the one that fails when that much rain arrives at once — and on the coast, salt has usually been working on the hardware for years first.

Jim and Tracy and their whole crew are exceptional. Roofing is one of those jobs that 99% of all consumers have no clue. One must trust what they are told. So many of the roofers are full of you know what and sell you more than you need. Universal is the opposite. They tell you what you need and even suggest options that save money. They tell you the pros and cons of each alternative. I could go on and on however suffice it to say that Universal is the best.

Having a re-roof is a stressful time but I knew to call Universal Roofing Inc from my previous experience with them from my old address. It's a step-by-step process (weather permitting) which Tracy (V.P.) walked me through. From customer service, explanation of roof products, to permits and completion was less stressful having an experienced company... and roof looks great! Thank you Universal Roofing Inc.

Local conditions

The Northeast Florida gutter problem

Rainfall here peaks in September, which is also when the Atlantic season peaks. That concentration matters more than the annual total: a system sized for average months is the one that overflows in the month that actually tests it, and that is the month with the most wind driving water at the roof edge.

Along the coast — Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra, up to Fernandina — salt reaches gutter hardware long before it touches the trough. Hangers, fasteners, screws and the joins in sectional gutter corrode from the inside of the fixing outward. We have taken down runs that looked new and were being held on by almost nothing.

Inland Duval and Clay have the opposite issue: heavy tree cover, particularly pine, filling troughs with needles that mat together and hold water rather than washing through. Pine litter is worse than leaf litter for exactly that reason.

On Jacksonville homes specifically

What we actually find

01

Corroded coastal fixings

From the Beaches to Fernandina, the hardware goes first. Stainless fixings and a re-hang often save an otherwise sound run.

02

Pine-needle matting

Inland Duval and Clay. Needles mat into a dense layer that holds water in the trough instead of letting it through.

03

September overflow

Systems adequate for eleven months and badly undersized for the one that matters.

04

Discharge at the slab

Downspouts ending at the foundation line, which in this soil means erosion and splash-back up the wall.

What we do

Installation, repair, replacement and guards

Seamless installation

Formed on site to the exact length of each run, so the only joins are at corners and outlets.

Repair and re-hang

Sagging runs, pulled fasteners, separated corners and pitch that no longer drains.

Replacement

When the run is corroded, repeatedly patched, or was undersized from the start.

Gutter guards

Worth it under heavy tree cover, not on an open lot. We'll tell you which you are.

Gutters and the roof edge fail together. A run that overflows pours water down the fascia board in Jacksonville it's bolted to, so we look at both together — and both are covered by the same free inspection.

Jacksonville gutter questions

How much do seamless gutters cost in Jacksonville?

Priced by the linear foot, varying with profile size, run height, corners and downspout count. Coastal properties should budget for upgraded fixings — near the ocean that's what determines how long the installation lasts, more than the gutter itself does. We measure and quote in writing, and the inspection is free.

Why do coastal gutters fail so much faster?

Because salt attacks the hardware, not the trough. Hangers, fasteners and sectional joins corrode from inside the fixing outward, so a run at Atlantic Beach or Ponte Vedra can look perfectly sound while what's holding it to the fascia is nearly gone. Upgraded fixings are the single highest-value choice on a coastal gutter job.

Do I need gutter guards in Jacksonville?

Under pine, more than most places. Pine needles mat into a dense layer that holds water in the trough rather than washing through, and it's worse than leaf litter for exactly that reason. Inland Duval and Clay under heavy pine cover are where guards genuinely pay; open coastal lots are where they don't.

Why do my gutters only overflow in September?

Because September is one of Northeast Florida's two wettest months (about 7.6 inches, nearly tied with June) and the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season at the same time. A system sized for average rainfall copes most of the year and then meets the month it was never really specified for — with wind driving the water at the roof edge at the same time.

Do you cover the Beaches and St. Augustine?

Yes — Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra, Fernandina, St. Augustine, Orange Park and Palm Coast, across Duval, St. Johns, Clay, Nassau and Flagler counties, from the office on Philips Highway.
