We entertained several roofing companies that were referred to us by our neighbors for estimates on a new roof for our home. Marty from Universal answered all of our questions including all follow up questions that we had about the project. Marty was personable, professional and knowledgeable while he was in our home and worked with us on our color scheme. We got a new designer roof and new gutters and had our pool solar panels disconnected and reconnected which was all facilitated by Universal. Marty checked in during and after our roofing project which was appreciated! The crew that worked on our project did a great job. We had a few minor hiccups during our project, however, Daniel from Universal, was quick to resolve them. Daniel took the initiative to come out to our home and took care of everything to ensure we were satisfied. We are extremely particular with our home projects and the crew did a great job at meeting our expectations. We would definitely recommend Universal to anyone looking to get a new roof.

Universal Roofing did a great job installing our roof!
I contacted Universal Roof & Contracting several months ago for an estimate on a new roof for my 3300 square foot house as well as contacting 4 other roofing companies. I knew very little about roofs except that I needed a new one. Marty Liles, Universal's agent, was the second of the 5 estimates that I received. I found him extremely knowledgable, very helpful and easy to work with. Marty wasn't just sent to my house to measure the roof and get back to me with a price. He took his time to explain the differences in products and recommended what he thought was appropriate for my house. When I got the 5 bids I was very confused. Marty was the only representative that was willing to come back to my house and explain the differences in the proposals that I had received. He basically differentiated between the apples and oranges that I had received as quotes for my new roof. I had a comfort level with Marty that the other sales people did not provide. I decided to use Universal based upon the feeling of trust and integrity Marty exuded. The price ended up comparable to the lowest offer for what I wanted ( not a bait and switch scenario I was wary of). The roof was scheduled to be installed about 2-3 weeks after I committed. I was contacted by Ben Daniels, project manager for Universal, to put my job on the calendar. He was very professional and also easy to work with. Ben said it would likely take 2 full days due to size of my house. On the day the roof was to be installed about 8 guys showed up at my house at 6:45am along with Ben. I think by 7am they were working on replacing my old roof with a brand new one. They worked straight through until lunchtime. After lunch they started back to work and after approximately 30 minutes it started to rain. They covered the house so that the there would be no damage. Instead of calling it a day, the roofers stayed at my house until the rain blew over about 20 minutes later. At about 3pm another 4 workers joined the 8 that were already working at my house. They all stayed (12 guys!) until the job was completed. By that time I had neighbors who were home from work and came over to check things out. No one could believe that such a large roof was installed in just 1 day! Not to mention that the new roof looked great and enhanced the beauty and value of my home. All I can say is that I had a fantastic experience with Universal and would highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a roof or repair. I found Universal to be a highly reputable company with employees who were definitely customer friendly and professional. Charles
Excellent company! They fixed the mess the original roofer made with one of the ridge lines, which was improperly installed. They showed up on time and were honest, friendly, and informative. I never felt like my questions were a bother. We later had a leak with Hurricane Irma, and they came immediately and tarred loose shingles all over the roof (not just on the place they had fixed previously) and did not charge anything (even though this was beyond the scope of the original job). The leak was probably from the rain blowing in the vent, but they said if I had any problems going forward, I should call and they'd be back to check again. I am incredibly impressed with these people and recommend them without reservation. Special recognition to Nick (project manager) and Devin (estimator) for going above and beyond!
URC has replaced two roofs for me, both residential, one metal, one rolled bitumen. I would recomend their services any time. I was pleased with every step of the process, start to finish. URC is a professional outfit. I was kept well informed on both projects and the work crews made it happen under brutal conditions. Congratulations to all involved including Jon, Daniel, Eddie, Carson, Marissa, Steffan and anyone that I may have missed.
Alex and Michael made the whole process a breeze. Especially compared to other roofing companies I've tried in the past.

About Crescent City
Crescent City is an incorporated city in Putnam County, incorporated in 1883. It sits on the western shore of Crescent Lake, a natural freshwater lake of more than 15,000 acres, and the city promotes its "Life Between the Lakes," with sunrise over Crescent Lake and sunset over Lake Stella.
The town grew quickly in the late 1800s on the citrus industry, which led to the construction of many of its historic buildings and homes. The Putnam County Library System has a branch there. The 2020 Census counted 1,654 residents.
Crescent City Homes and What Their Roofs Face
The weather those roofs answer to is measurable. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Jacksonville station put annual rainfall at 53.4 inches, with 54% of it falling June through September and 7.6 inches in June alone. Most of that rain arrives in summer storms, often wind-driven, and it finds any weak flashing detail on Crescent City rooflines quickly.
Combine that rainfall with inland humidity and UV, and Crescent City roofs have a lot working on them. We inspect the details first: flashing, penetrations, the roof edge.
Storms Crescent City Has Answered To
Crescent City sits in the inland storm region, and the record is specific: Irma (2017) — crossed Central Florida as a hurricane; minor to moderate damage to many structures, widespread tree damage (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017). Milton (2024) — hurricane-force gusts in Central Florida near the track; 14.83" of rain recorded near Orlando (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024).
After any of those, the useful thing a homeowner can do is document from the ground: photograph what is visible, note the date, check ceilings that night and again a week later. Then get a professional assessment before small openings become interior damage. We run storm routes across Putnam County and put findings in writing with photographs — no scare tactics, no inflated damage lists.

Crescent City Roofing Questions
Is the inspection really free?
Free, full stop — the visit, the photographs, and the written condition report all cost nothing and commit you to nothing. We'd rather earn the roof job years from now than charge for a look today.
How long do roofs last in Crescent City?
Realistic numbers for Crescent City: architectural asphalt shingle about 20 years and clay or concrete tile more than 50 years with proper care, based on a National Association of Home Builders study. Metal life depends on the product, so ask for its warranty term. Installation quality decides which end of the range your roof lands on.
Can a handyman repair a roof in Florida?
Not legally. Florida's licensing agency says roof repairs and roof installations require a state license. Ask for the license number before hiring anyone; ours are CCC057165 & CBC1258484.
