We had Universal come out for a quote, and David was great. They responded next day and had everything scheduled quickly. Our PM Tom was awesome too. He was quick to communicate and rectify and questions that popped up through the build.

We had to have the roof replaced at our primary home in the Orlando area last year by Universal because our insurance company was dropping us. Everyone we interacted with in the company was extremely professional, communication throughout the process was great, and the roof looks amazing! Thanks again, Universal!
This company has been amazing to work with as extremely detail oriented and really takes the time to educate their customer on options. Our Project Manager, Thomas McVicker, was an outstanding communicator and responded promptly to any inquiry. Top notch customer service!
Thomas was very great, I really love his personality the job was done beautifully I’m happy with the results. Thank you ☺️
I highly recommend Universal Roofing. Richard Adamsom was a pleasure to work with and was very helpful to me for all the documentation needed to get my Florida Grant. When I finally was approved for the grant Universal it took just a couple of weeks to start the project and they were complete in one day. It took about 7 months for the grant approval but Richard and Universal was right there when I told them it was a go. If you ever need a new roof Universal it is the way to go. Thank you Richard and the crew from Universal for a job well done.
Gene was the first and only estimator to respond back to us getting a quote for a new roof. He was up front and gave us 3 different plans we could go with, and the benefits of each. Once we were ready, the financing process was super easy. And our roof was done before we went out of state the following week. Overall it was a good experience and I'd recommend them if you want top notch communication during the process, a pm on site during the roof process, and everything done in a timely manner when you need it.
Jonathan Gil, the project manager was wonderful to work with. He was and still is always available when we had questions. Highly recommended.
After damage from Milton I met with 4 roofing companies. I opted to go with Universal after discussing my options with Richard Adamson. He laid out clearly what would be needed, and then later returned to go over the selection and explain the warranty etc. Marissa went over the scheduling and what the expected procedures are once they start. She was also very understanding of my issues with my insurer and accommodated a last minute re-schedule. Yordanis had the roofing crew there at sun-up, and they were done by mid-afternoon. Besides the obvious noise, one would be hard pressed to know they had just replaced my roof. Two days later a Pasco county inspector came and gave the all-clear. Two days after that, Yordanis had another crew at my house to install the gutters. I had a couple of queries once all was said and done, and Yordanis was very prompt at returning my texts. All in all, a very expeditious and satisfying process once I got passed the insurance company.
I would like to take this opportunity to to praise the job Universal Roofing & Contracting Company did on the installation of my new roof the crew arrived on time and completed the job the same day my roof is approximately 4600sf and it was pitch dark when the crew finished and not one piece of old tile was left on the ground Kudos to the estimator David who kept me informed from start to finish and provided me with all documents in a timely manner and also Kudos to the on site supervisor Jonothan who was truly on the job I would truly recommend this company to anyone seeking to get a roof replacement and lastly this company also gives a Veterans discount

Universal Roof & Contracting serves Tarpon Springs with every major roofing service — repair, replacement, inspections, storm response, gutters, and all four mainstream roof systems — from our Tampa Bay office. Family-owned since 1993, BBB-accredited with an A+ rating, and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred. This page is the whole picture in one place; every section links to the full service behind it.
What Tarpon Springs Does to a Roof
Every roofing decision in Tarpon Springs traces back to three forces, and the numbers behind them show why installation quality matters here.
Sun
Strong sun breaks down shingle asphalt and fades finishes over time, so Florida roofs need regular checks.
Salt
Gulf salt air corrodes exposed metal fasteners, flashing, and gutter seams. Corrosion-resistant materials matter this close to the coast.
Storms
Summer squall lines and the occasional named storm bring hard, wind-driven rain that finds every weak detail.
46.65"
annual rainfall at the St Petersburg Ap station
63%
of it falls June through September
8.39"

Roof Repair in Tarpon Springs
Roof trouble in Tarpon Springs rarely announces itself. It starts as one lifted shingle or a slow drip at a flashing joint — and the difference between a cheap fix and a big one is how soon someone looks.

A Tarpon Springs repair call gets a whole-roof look, not a spot patch: the damage you reported, then the surrounding field, every flashing, and every penetration — because the second leak is usually forming near the first. If the honest answer is a repair, that's the recommendation you get in writing.
Active water gets stopped first: tarp or seal on the spot where access allows, permanent repair scheduled right behind it, photos of both in your records.
Wind-lifted tabs
One good gust finds every marginal fastener. Small patch now, or decking work later.
Granules in the gutters
Shingle surfaces shedding — the field is aging, and it's time to watch it.
A stain that wasn't there
Interior spots mean the leak has a head start — water travels the deck before it drops.
Flashing and fastener wear
A common leak point, and one Florida weather works on early.
Roof Replacement
What actually drives a replacement quote — and how concealed damage is handled if tear-off uncovers it.

A completed Universal replacement — one to three days on most homes.
A replacement here isn't a shingle swap — it's a system: decking inspected once opened, underlayment and ventilation installed to the manufacturer's actual specification, flashing detailed at every transition. That's what lets an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor (fewer than 1% of roofing contractors hold the tier) back the work with warranties most roofers can't offer.
You see the whole scope line by line before signing, and the approved price is the built price unless tear-off uncovers concealed damage no one could see — which you approve before we fix it. Most Tarpon Springs homes are finished in one to three days. If the roof edge is also near end-of-life, we'll tell you, and doing soffit, fascia, and gutters with the roof saves a second mobilization.
Size, pitch & complexity
Cut-up roofs with dormers and valleys take longer than simple gables — and price accordingly.
Tear-off & decking
How many layers come up, and what the decking looks like once exposed. You approve anything it reveals.
The material system
Shingle, metal, tile, or slate — specified for Florida exposure, not upsold.
Flashing & ventilation
The details that separate a code-minimum job from one that reaches its rated life.
Every Tarpon Springs replacement starts with the free inspection.
Roof Inspections
In Tarpon Springs we recommend checking your roof twice a year, in spring and fall, plus after any major storm. Our professional inspection is free, with a written report you keep either way.
Field & fasteners
Wear, granule loss, and fastener condition across the whole covering.
Flashing & penetrations
Common leak points, so we check every boot, valley, and transition.
The roof edge
Soffit, fascia, and gutters for rot, separation, and pest entry.
The attic side
Moisture staining, ventilation problems, and daylight where there shouldn't be any.
Coastal corrosion
Salt-air wear on fasteners and flashing gets extra attention on every coastal roof.
Findings come back as photographs and a written condition report — not a verbal opinion from the driveway. Many inspections end with "you're fine, here's what to watch," and the report is yours whether or not you ever hire us. If you're buying or selling in Pinellas County, the same visit produces the roof documentation the transaction needs, from a licensed contractor rather than a checklist service.

Storm Damage in Tarpon Springs
Tarpon Springs sits on the Gulf side of the storm ledger — and 2024 wrote two entries in two weeks. After it passes, a five-minute ground check tells you whether to call.
01 Stay off the roof
Post-storm decks hide soft spots. Everything below can be checked from the ground.
02 Field, ridge, edges
Scan all three from the yard — wind works the perimeter and peaks hardest.
03 Gutters tell the truth
Granules, torn shingle pieces, detached sections — the evidence collects there.
04 Inside, look up
Ceiling corners and closets show water first, sometimes days later.
05 Date, photograph, call
Your ground photos plus our documented assessment make the complete record.
Helene
dangerous storm surge into the Gulf coast, including coastal Pinellas (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092024)
Milton
landfall on Siesta Key; 20.40" of rain near St. Petersburg; record crests on the Hillsborough River (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024)
Ian
one of the costliest hurricanes in Florida history; severe wind and flooding across the southwest coast (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092022)
We bring same-week assessments across Pinellas County, emergency tarping when the roof needs immediate protection, and a written, photographed damage report — what happened and what fixing it involves, no scare tactics. Material choice is storm strategy too: every system carries its own tested wind rating, so we show you the rating for the exact product before you choose.
Residential Roofing
The right roof for a Tarpon Springs home follows the house, the owner's horizon, and the budget across thirty years — not the material a salesman happens to carry.

We install every mainstream system — shingle, metal, tile, and flat — so the recommendation follows your house and budget, not whichever material a contractor happens to sell. The full comparison is below.
The house & neighborhood
Age, style, and what the street is built around — a roof has to belong where it lives.
Your ownership horizon
Selling in five years and staying thirty produce different right answers.
Budget, now vs. 30 years
Upfront cost against lifetime cost — repairs, energy, and how many more roofs you'll buy.
Installation quality
The same materials last longer or fail early depending on underlayment, ventilation, and flashing work.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Commercial Roofing
A commercial roof in Tarpon Springs protects inventory, equipment, and people, and it is built under the Florida Building Code, rated among the strongest of the hurricane-coast states by IBHS.

Think in decades, not years: compare lifetime cost, not just this quarter's price. TPO's energy efficiency, metal's wind performance, and modified bitumen's proven simplicity each earn their place depending on the deck, the budget, and how long you plan to hold the building.
Our maintenance plans put inspections, drain clearing, and membrane repairs on a schedule for Pinellas County buildings — with the documentation trail kept current, which matters at sale time and any time the roof's history gets examined.
The 25% rule
If more than 25% of a roof section is repaired or replaced within 12 months, the whole section must meet current code, unless the roof was built to the 2007 Florida Building Code or later.
Licensing & permits
Commercial roof repairs and installations require a Florida-licensed contractor, and most need a permit from the local building department.
System choice
TPO for energy efficiency; metal for hurricane resistance and lifespan; modified bitumen where the deck calls for it.
Maintenance cadence
Annual and post-storm inspections, clear drains, prompt membrane repairs — where commercial roofs are won or lost.
Gutters, Soffit & Fascia
In Tarpon Springs, the roof edge is a common place for water damage to start: soffit, fascia, and gutters can fail quietly before anyone notices.

Edge work follows a simple ladder: patch the isolated failure, replace the systemic one, and whenever a roof replacement is on the calendar, do the edge at the same time and save a second mobilization. Our default spec is seamless aluminum gutters, aluminum fascia, and vented vinyl soffit, chosen for what Florida air and rainfall actually do to materials.
Soft or spongy fascia
The material underneath is already compromised — past the repair window.
Stains on exterior walls
Water escaping the drainage path and running where it shouldn't.
Sagging, overflowing gutters
Chronic overflow usually means repairs are no longer keeping up.
Rust at the seams
Sectional gutters fail at their joints — seamless aluminum has far fewer of them.

| System | Realistic Florida life | Wind rating (installed right) | Cost tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal (standing seam) | Varies by product; ask for the warranty term | Product-specific; we show you the rating | $$$ | Longevity, storms, energy bills |
| Architectural shingle | About 20 years | Class H shingles: rated for design wind speeds up to 194 mph | $ | Value, fast storm repairs |
| Tile (clay/concrete) | Over 50 years | High, code-driven | $$$ | Permanence, the Florida look |
| Metlok (only at Universal) | 50-year limited lifetime warranty | 180+ mph tested wind rating | $$$ | Longevity, high-wind exposure |
What moves every quote regardless of material: pitch and complexity, the product tier within the material, specialist labor where tile demands it, and structural reinforcement when weight requires it. Florida law also requires insurers to offer premium credits for wind-resistant construction features — a wind mitigation inspection documents what your roof qualifies for.

Tarpon Springs Roofing Questions
How long do roofs last in Tarpon Springs?
Shingle: about 20 years. Tile: more than 50 with care, per a National Association of Home Builders study. Metal depends on the product, so ask for its warranty term. Installation quality decides which end of the range your roof lands on.
Repair or replace — how do you decide?
The test is scope and remaining life: contained damage on a healthy roof gets repaired; spreading wear, leaks that keep finding new paths, or a roof in its final stretch gets a replacement conversation, because repeated patching on a failing roof adds up. Our recommendation always arrives in writing, with photos.
What should I do right after storm damage?
Three things: stay off the roof, photograph what's visible from the ground with the date, and get professional eyes up there quickly, because even small openings let water reach the decking. We run storm assessments across Pinellas County with tarping available the same visit where roofs need immediate protection.
Can a handyman repair a roof in Florida?
No. Florida's licensing agency says roof repairs and roof installations require a state license. Verify the license and insurance before hiring anyone. Universal Roof & Contracting is state-licensed (CCC057165 & CBC1258484) and fully insured.
What does a roof replacement cost in Tarpon Springs?
Five inputs set it: size and pitch, how many layers come off, what the decking looks like underneath, which system goes on, and the detail work at flashings and ventilation. That's why quotes-by-phone are guesses. Ours start with a free inspection and arrive itemized, line by line.
Is the inspection really free?
Yes — photos, honest findings, and a written condition report, free, whether or not you hire us for anything. Many inspections end with 'you're fine, here's what to watch.'
How long does a roof installation take?
Typically one to three days for a residential replacement. Complexity adds time — tile systems, steep pitches, multiple layers coming off — and commercial jobs scale with the building. Either way you'll know the expected window up front.
What time of year is best for roof work here?
Any month works — this is Florida, and roofs can't wait on weather windows anyway. Given the choice, fall wins: easier on crews and materials, and the new roof is in place ahead of storm season rather than behind it.
