Gene was the first and only estimator to respond back to us getting a quote for a new roof. He was up front and gave us 3 different plans we could go with, and the benefits of each. Once we were ready, the financing process was super easy. And our roof was done before we went out of state the following week. Overall it was a good experience and I'd recommend them if you want top notch communication during the process, a pm on site during the roof process, and everything done in a timely manner when you need it.

Universal Roofing repaired my roof and cleaned the roof tile. The roof was leaking at the point where it meets the chimney and came through the ceiling and caused damage to the ceiling and floor. Universal repaired it. 3 months later water came through the same area. Yordanis Segura and his crew came out and did a water test on the area they repaired and ruled out water coming in where the roof repairs were made. I asked them to put more silicone in the area just to make sure we didn’t miss a crack. Yordanis was very pleasant to deal with and very professional. Even though we couldn’t isolate the leak, Universal did everything I expected of them to solve the problem and agreed to come back out if it was determined to be a roof issue. Great company. I highly recommend them.
On January 2024 I had wind damage, after contact my insurance, I called Mr David Roman, and I explained my situation. Universal roof & contracting it’s has been very professional with un excellent customer service easy to communicate. Mr. David came to my house and explained to me all the details for the roof replacement, he always answered my calls, he’s a very smart and knowledgeable person as well the rest of the great team at Universal roof & contracting seem around my street many houses getting theirs roof replaced, but you can see the difference and quality of the job in my house, It was done professionally. I’m being very blessed to have my roof replaced for a professional and great company like Universal roof & contracting, thanks and thanks to Mr David Roman!
The team from Universal Roofing was great. They were very professional and did a thorough job of correcting the leak in our roof. We had a different company “attempt” to fix the leak but they only did patch work. We were so impressed with Yordanis and Olonso. The communication with this company was very impressive and they were on time. We highly recommend Universal Roofing if you need your roof repaired or replaced!
I would like to take this opportunity to to praise the job Universal Roofing & Contracting Company did on the installation of my new roof the crew arrived on time and completed the job the same day my roof is approximately 4600sf and it was pitch dark when the crew finished and not one piece of old tile was left on the ground Kudos to the estimator David who kept me informed from start to finish and provided me with all documents in a timely manner and also Kudos to the on site supervisor Jonothan who was truly on the job I would truly recommend this company to anyone seeking to get a roof replacement and lastly this company also gives a Veterans discount
Getting an estimate from Universal was a great experience. David was very personable, through and professional. My interaction with him was a pleasurable experience and I would recommend Universal in the future to anyone who needs a new roof. His attention to detail was extraordinary. He was the only one who went up into the crawl space to see what damage had occured from the water leaking through. The materials suggested were of high grade and top notch. It was easy to communicate with Dave and the office personal. My questions were always addressed in a timely fashion. I went with a lower bid and it turned out to be a disaster to save a few thousands dollars. I should of had Universal perform the work and regret my decision not too. The professionalism of the whole process from Universal was second to none. If you need a new roof Universal is the company for you. With regret. Scott
Dakota was excellent at explaining what was needed and service cost. Other companies estimates required several calls to get the price Dakota was clear with in the beginning. Yordanis Segura was the project manager the team showed up at 6:30am and the roof was not only completed by 4:30pm but they cleaned up like they had never been there. I also appreciated the gutter replacement was included in the roof price. The supplies and dumpster were delivered with care leaving space for me to still park in my garage. I cannot recommend them enough.
This my 3rd roof. By far, this was the best.Working with Richard from the Tampa office made this a very smooth process.
Jonathan Gil and the crew were very professional. Finished the project in a timely manner. Highly recommend the company for any roofing project!

Universal Roof & Contracting serves Davenport with every major roofing service — repair, replacement, inspections, storm response, gutters, and all four mainstream roof systems — from our Tampa Bay office. Family-owned since 1993, BBB-accredited with an A+ rating, and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred. This page is the whole picture in one place; every section links to the full service behind it.
What Davenport Does to a Roof
Roofs across the I-4 corridor answer to three things, all year, every year. Here's what each one does — with the numbers behind it.
Sun
Strong sun breaks down shingle asphalt and fades finishes over time, so Florida roofs need regular checks.
Humidity
Inland Florida trades salt for humidity: algae grows on shaded slopes, and poor attic ventilation traps heat and moisture under the roof.
Storms
Summer squall lines and the occasional named storm bring hard, wind-driven rain that finds every weak detail.
46.65"
annual rainfall at the St Petersburg Ap station
63%
of it falls June through September
8.39"
in August alone — the peak month

Roof Repair in Davenport
Roof damage in Davenport often starts small and moves fast once water finds a path. Catching it early is the whole game.

A Davenport repair call gets a whole-roof look, not a spot patch: the damage you reported, then the surrounding field, every flashing, and every penetration — because the second leak is usually forming near the first. If the honest answer is a repair, that's the recommendation you get in writing.
Active water gets stopped first: tarp or seal on the spot where access allows, permanent repair scheduled right behind it, photos of both in your records.
Lifted or missing shingles
The classic after a squall line. Caught early it's a focused, inexpensive repair.
Granules in the gutters
Shingle surfaces shedding — the field is aging, and it's time to watch it.
Ceiling stains
By the time water shows inside, it's been traveling the deck for a while. Call now, not next month.
Flashing and fastener wear
A common leak point, and one Florida weather works on early.
Roof Replacement
What actually drives a replacement quote — and how concealed damage is handled if tear-off uncovers it.

A completed Universal replacement — one to three days on most homes.
The quote you get is an itemized scope, not a number on a business card — and it's built from what your roof actually needs: tear-off depth, decking condition, the material system, and the flashing and ventilation details that decide whether a roof reaches its rated life. As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor, our warranty options go beyond what the standard tiers allow.
Around the I-4 corridor, we schedule replacements ahead of storm season where the calendar allows, bundle roof-edge work when it makes financial sense, and finish most homes in one to three days — protected landscaping and a magnet-swept yard included.
Size, pitch & complexity
Cut-up roofs with dormers and valleys take longer than simple gables — and price accordingly.
Tear-off & decking
How many layers come up, and what the decking looks like once exposed. You approve anything it reveals.
The material system
Shingle, metal, tile, or slate — specified for Florida exposure, not upsold.
Flashing & ventilation
The details that separate a code-minimum job from one that reaches its rated life.
Every Davenport replacement starts with the free inspection.
Roof Inspections
In Davenport we recommend checking your roof twice a year, in spring and fall, plus after any major storm. Our professional inspection is free, with a written report you keep either way.
Field & fasteners
Wear, granule loss, and fastener condition across the whole covering.
Flashing & penetrations
Common leak points, so we check every boot, valley, and transition.
The roof edge
Soffit, fascia, and gutters for rot, separation, and pest entry.
The attic side
Moisture staining, ventilation problems, and daylight where there shouldn't be any.
What you get is a documented condition file: photos, findings, remaining-life assessment, in writing, free. We built the process for homeowners across the I-4 corridor who want evidence instead of sales pressure — many inspections end with a clean bill and a watch list, and the report belongs to you either way.

Storm Damage in Davenport
Being inland doesn't excuse a roof in Davenport. Irma crossed the middle of the state as a hurricane, and Milton brought hurricane-force gusts to Central Florida. After it passes, a five-minute ground check tells you whether to call.
01 Scan from the ground
Lifted or missing shingles across the field, sagging lines at ridge and edges.
02 Check the gutters
Granule wash-out after a storm means the surface took a beating.
03 Walk the yard
Blown-off material in the grass is the roof telling you where to look.
04 Look up inside
Ceilings and closet corners: small openings let water reach the decking.
05 Note the date and call
Photograph what you can see safely; we put findings in writing with photos.
Irma
crossed Central Florida as a hurricane; minor to moderate damage to many structures, widespread tree damage (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017)
Milton
hurricane-force gusts in Central Florida near the track; 14.83" of rain recorded near Orlando (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024)
Storm response here works in two speeds: immediate protection (tarps and temporary seals, same visit where access allows) and documented assessment (photographs, findings, and repair scope in writing). No scare tactics, no inflated damage lists. We have been roofing in Florida since 1993.
Residential Roofing
Drive Davenport and you'll see many shingle roofs. Sometimes that's the right call; sometimes it's just the default. Four things decide which.

89.3% of occupied homes in Davenport are owner-occupied, and the median owner-occupied home value is $333,300 (U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, 2020–2024). Ours is the math of protecting that investment: the right system, installed to specification, maintained on a schedule.
We install every mainstream system — shingle, metal, tile, and flat — so the recommendation follows your house and budget, not whichever material a contractor happens to sell. The full comparison is below.
The house & neighborhood
Age, style, and what the street is built around — a roof has to belong where it lives.
Your ownership horizon
Selling in five years and staying thirty produce different right answers.
Budget, now vs. 30 years
Upfront cost against lifetime cost — repairs, energy, and how many more roofs you'll buy.
Installation quality
The same materials last longer or fail early depending on underlayment, ventilation, and flashing work.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Commercial Roofing
A commercial roof in Davenport protects inventory, equipment, and people, and it is built under the Florida Building Code, rated among the strongest of the hurricane-coast states by IBHS.

Commercial decisions in Davenport come down to decades-math: purchase price against energy costs, storm resilience, and maintenance across the building's life. We'll show the comparison for your specific building rather than defaulting to whichever membrane is on the truck.
Then maintenance decides everything: annual and post-storm inspections, drains kept clear, membrane and flashing repairs done promptly. Our plans put all of it on a documented schedule so the roof's history is always current and provable.
The 25% rule
If more than 25% of a roof section is repaired or replaced within 12 months, the whole section must meet current code, unless the roof was built to the 2007 Florida Building Code or later.
Licensing & permits
Commercial roof repairs and installations require a Florida-licensed contractor, and most need a permit from the local building department.
System choice
TPO for energy efficiency; metal for hurricane resistance and lifespan; modified bitumen where the deck calls for it.
Maintenance cadence
Annual and post-storm inspections, clear drains, prompt membrane repairs — where commercial roofs are won or lost.
Gutters, Soffit & Fascia
Gutters, soffit, and fascia do unglamorous work — and in Davenport they take the weather's first hit, every single day.

Edge work follows a simple ladder: patch the isolated failure, replace the systemic one, and whenever a roof replacement is on the calendar, do the edge at the same time and save a second mobilization. Our default spec is seamless aluminum gutters, aluminum fascia, and vented vinyl soffit, chosen for what Florida air and rainfall actually do to materials.
Soft or spongy fascia
The material underneath is already compromised — past the repair window.
Stains on exterior walls
Water escaping the drainage path and running where it shouldn't.
Sagging, overflowing gutters
Chronic overflow usually means repairs are no longer keeping up.
Rust at the seams
Sectional gutters fail at their joints — seamless aluminum has far fewer of them.

| System | Realistic Florida life | Wind rating (installed right) | Cost tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal (standing seam) | Varies by product; ask for the warranty term | Product-specific; we show you the rating | $$$ | Longevity, storms, energy bills |
| Architectural shingle | About 20 years | Class H shingles: rated for design wind speeds up to 194 mph | $ | Value, fast storm repairs |
| Tile (clay/concrete) | Over 50 years | High, code-driven | $$$ | Permanence, the Florida look |
| Metlok (only at Universal) | 50-year limited lifetime warranty | 180+ mph tested wind rating | $$$ | Longevity, high-wind exposure |
What moves every quote regardless of material: pitch and complexity, the product tier within the material, specialist labor where tile demands it, and structural reinforcement when weight requires it. Florida law also requires insurers to offer premium credits for wind-resistant construction features — a wind mitigation inspection documents what your roof qualifies for.

Davenport Roofing Questions
How long do roofs last in Davenport?
Realistic numbers for Davenport: architectural asphalt shingle about 20 years and clay or concrete tile more than 50 years with proper care, based on a National Association of Home Builders study. Metal life depends on the product, so ask for its warranty term. Installation quality decides which end of the range your roof lands on.
Repair or replace — how do you decide?
Localized damage on a roof with life left: repair. Widespread wear, repeating leaks, or a roof near the end of its lifespan: replacement is often a better value than repeated patching. We put the recommendation in writing with photos so you can decide without pressure.
What should I do right after storm damage?
Three things: stay off the roof, photograph what's visible from the ground with the date, and get professional eyes up there quickly, because even small openings let water reach the decking. We run storm assessments across Polk County with tarping available the same visit where roofs need immediate protection.
Can a handyman repair a roof in Florida?
Florida's licensing agency says no: roof repairs and roof installations require a state license. Before anyone touches your roof, verify the state license and the insurance behind it. We hold CCC057165 & CBC1258484 and full coverage.
What does a roof replacement cost in Davenport?
It depends on five things: roof size and pitch, tear-off complexity, decking condition once opened, the material system you choose, and the flashing and ventilation details done right. Anyone quoting a number without seeing the roof is guessing. Our estimates are free, line-by-line, and based on an actual inspection.
Is the inspection really free?
Yes, genuinely: no fee, no obligation, and you keep the written report and photos either way. It's how we've introduced ourselves to Florida homeowners since 1993 — many inspections end with good news and a watch list.
How long does a roof installation take?
Typically one to three days for a residential replacement. Complexity adds time — tile systems, steep pitches, multiple layers coming off — and commercial jobs scale with the building. Either way you'll know the expected window up front.
What time of year is best for roof work here?
Roofing runs twelve months a year across the I-4 corridor, but if you can choose, choose fall: cooler working conditions, better material handling, and a finished roof standing before the next storm season opens.
What is the 25% roof rule in Florida?
Under the Florida Building Code, repairing or replacing more than 25% of a roof section within 12 months generally means the whole section must be brought up to current code. Roofs built to the 2007 code or later are exempt: only the repaired part must meet current code.
