Excellent service. Extensive water damage discovered and repaired on my roof. We had no idea since our home was only 10 years old. Before long we would have had water damage inside the house if not discovered and repaired. URC did a great job for us! Very pleased with the results.
Universal Roof and Contracting made it easy to get my roof replacement. Don and Yordanis, were friendly, flexible, and kept me well informed. I’d recommend the experience to others.
Highly recommend Universal Roofing. They are not the cheapest but nothing is “cheap” is nowadays. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR as the motto goes . UNIVERSAL ROOFING: They are reliable, professional & very nice. They use GREAT PRODUCTS, they have great crews, they did an amazing job. Very pleased. FIVE STAR REVIEW. Roof replacement wasn’t done in a day or two: things come up from inclement weather to emergencies elsewhere. Be patient; it’s worth the wait and doing a great job correctly takes a little extra time! It took a full week for the delivery of supplies, full roof replacement and finally, new gutters/downspouts installed. No matter. We paid for a new roof. We got a gorgeous new roof all within a week. Out THANKS go out to Richard the pitchman, Jeremy the project manager for updating us throughout the project, and the incredible crew that did the work. I’m in Real Estate and will definitely recommend Universal Roofing to my clients. Diane A. Seminole, FL
Tom the site manager and his team were amazing. Super professional, proactive and always kept us aware of where things were with the roof replacement. Despite some rain on the job execution day it didn’t hinder their proficiency. The team quickly paused and once the rain passed they were right back to work and had the roof replaced the same day. The new roof looks phenomenal and I would recommend the team to anyone looking to replace their homes roof. 1st Class Service! 5 Star Customer Service and Quality of work.
They did an amazing and totally professional job….so impressed…would highly recommend!! They left the place cleaner than it was. We are so glad we picked Universal Roofing and Contracting to replace our roof. All people involved were super nice and helpful.
The team from Universal Roofing was great. They were very professional and did a thorough job of correcting the leak in our roof. We had a different company “attempt” to fix the leak but they only did patch work. We were so impressed with Yordanis and Olonso. The communication with this company was very impressive and they were on time. We highly recommend Universal Roofing if you need your roof repaired or replaced!
Had a minor issue and Johnathan Gil corrected quickly.
After damage from Milton I met with 4 roofing companies. I opted to go with Universal after discussing my options with Richard Adamson. He laid out clearly what would be needed, and then later returned to go over the selection and explain the warranty etc. Marissa went over the scheduling and what the expected procedures are once they start. She was also very understanding of my issues with my insurer and accommodated a last minute re-schedule. Yordanis had the roofing crew there at sun-up, and they were done by mid-afternoon. Besides the obvious noise, one would be hard pressed to know they had just replaced my roof. Two days later a Pasco county inspector came and gave the all-clear. Two days after that, Yordanis had another crew at my house to install the gutters. I had a couple of queries once all was said and done, and Yordanis was very prompt at returning my texts. All in all, a very expeditious and satisfying process once I got passed the insurance company.

Universal Roof & Contracting serves Winter Haven with every major roofing service — repair, replacement, inspections, storm response, gutters, and all four mainstream roof systems — from our Tampa Bay office. Family-owned since 1993, BBB-accredited with an A+ rating, and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred. This page is the whole picture in one place; every section links to the full service behind it.
What Winter Haven Does to a Roof
Three forces set the terms for every roof in Winter Haven. Understand them and every material and maintenance decision on this page makes sense.
Sun
Strong sun breaks down shingle asphalt and fades finishes over time, so Florida roofs need regular checks.
Humidity
Inland Florida trades salt for humidity: algae grows on shaded slopes, and poor attic ventilation traps heat and moisture under the roof.
Storms
Summer squall lines and the occasional named storm bring hard, wind-driven rain that finds every weak detail.
46.65"
annual rainfall at the St Petersburg Ap station
63%
of it falls June through September
8.39"
in August alone — the peak month

Finding the Right Winter Haven Roof Permit Record
Winter Haven’s current permitting page separates older records from new work. It directs owners to eSuite for permit history from 2025 and earlier, while Accela handles new applications, review status, approved documents and inspection scheduling. If an old roof record seems missing, check which system holds the year you need before concluding that there is no record.
Use that history to clarify the inspection request. A later addition, porch or detached garage may not share the installation date of the main house. Identify every building and roof section you want included, then ask the contractor to compare those records with the current visible condition. A past permit can establish recorded work; it cannot confirm that the roof has remained unchanged or is still in sound condition.
For replacement work, ask how progress documentation and final inspection will be handled in the applicable system. The city’s published reroof inspection list distinguishes dry-in and flashing work in progress from the final stage. Keep the accepted scope, material references and completion record together. If you are coordinating around a move or sale, share the actual deadline early and ask for a realistic sequence that includes approvals, materials and the required inspections.

Roof Repair in Winter Haven
Roof trouble in Winter Haven rarely announces itself. It starts as one lifted shingle or a slow drip at a flashing joint — and the difference between a cheap fix and a big one is how soon someone looks.

For a Winter Haven repair visit, tell us the approximate year of earlier work and whether it involved the entire roof or one section. Share any available permit or invoice. The current findings should explain the immediate repair and identify unanswered questions rather than inferring roof condition solely from a document date.
Wind-lifted tabs
One good gust finds every marginal fastener. Small patch now, or decking work later.
Granules in the gutters
Shingle surfaces shedding — the field is aging, and it's time to watch it.
Ceiling stains
By the time water shows inside, it's been traveling the deck for a while. Call now, not next month.
Flashing and fastener wear
A common leak point, and one Florida weather works on early.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Roof Replacement
What actually drives a replacement quote — and how concealed damage is handled if tear-off uncovers it.

A completed Universal replacement — one to three days on most homes.
A Winter Haven replacement proposal should name the included structures and explain how the project will be documented through completion. Ask for the permit reference when applicable and retain the final record. If different trades are involved, identify who coordinates their work before choosing an installation window.
Size, pitch & complexity
Cut-up roofs with dormers and valleys take longer than simple gables — and price accordingly.
Tear-off & decking
How many layers come up, and what the decking looks like once exposed. You approve anything it reveals.
The material system
Shingle, metal, tile, or slate — specified for Florida exposure, not upsold.
Flashing & ventilation
The details that separate a code-minimum job from one that reaches its rated life.
Every Winter Haven replacement starts with the free inspection.
Roof Inspections
A Winter Haven roof should be checked twice a year, in spring and fall, and after every named storm. Our inspection costs nothing and ends with a written, photographed report either way.
Field & fasteners
Wear, granule loss, and fastener condition across the whole covering.
Flashing & penetrations
Common leak points, so we check every boot, valley, and transition.
The roof edge
Soffit, fascia, and gutters for rot, separation, and pest entry.
The attic side
Moisture staining, ventilation problems, and daylight where there shouldn't be any.
Findings come back as photographs and a written condition report — not a verbal opinion from the driveway. Many inspections end with "you're fine, here's what to watch," and the report is yours whether or not you ever hire us. If you're buying or selling in Polk County, the same visit produces the roof documentation the transaction needs, from a licensed contractor rather than a checklist service.

Storm Damage in Winter Haven
Being inland doesn't excuse a roof in Winter Haven. Irma crossed the middle of the state as a hurricane, and Milton brought hurricane-force gusts to Central Florida. After it passes, a five-minute ground check tells you whether to call.
01 Ground scan first
Never climb after a storm. Missing tabs, sagging ridge lines, and displaced flashing all show from the yard.
02 Read the downspouts
A pile of granules at the splash block is the roof reporting damage.
03 Circle the property
Shingle pieces and drip-edge sections in the grass map where the wind got in.
04 Check ceilings that night
And again in a week — storm water can take days to show inside.
05 Document and call
Photos with dates from the ground; our written assessment fills in the rest.
Irma
crossed Central Florida as a hurricane; minor to moderate damage to many structures, widespread tree damage (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017)
Milton
hurricane-force gusts in Central Florida near the track; 14.83" of rain recorded near Orlando (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024)
We bring same-week assessments across Polk County, emergency tarping when the roof needs immediate protection, and a written, photographed damage report — what happened and what fixing it involves, no scare tactics. Material choice is storm strategy too: every system carries its own tested wind rating, so we show you the rating for the exact product before you choose.
Residential Roofing
The right roof for a Winter Haven home follows the house, the owner's horizon, and the budget across thirty years — not the material a salesman happens to carry.

63.7% of occupied homes in Winter Haven are owner-occupied, and the median owner-occupied home value is $269,800 (U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, 2020–2024). Ours is the math of protecting that investment: the right system, installed to specification, maintained on a schedule.
We install every mainstream system — shingle, metal, tile, and flat — so the recommendation follows your house and budget, not whichever material a contractor happens to sell. The full comparison is below.
The house & neighborhood
Age, style, and what the street is built around — a roof has to belong where it lives.
Your ownership horizon
Selling in five years and staying thirty produce different right answers.
Budget, now vs. 30 years
Upfront cost against lifetime cost — repairs, energy, and how many more roofs you'll buy.
Installation quality
The same materials last longer or fail early depending on underlayment, ventilation, and flashing work.
Commercial Roofing
A commercial roof in Winter Haven protects inventory, equipment, and people, and it is built under the Florida Building Code, rated among the strongest of the hurricane-coast states by IBHS.

The right system follows the building — deck construction, equipment loads, drainage, and how long you're holding it. White TPO reflects heat and helps with cooling costs; properly fastened metal performs well in high winds; modified bitumen remains a proven choice on the right deck.
What keeps any of them performing is cadence: inspections every year and after every storm, clear drains, prompt small repairs. We run that cadence on a maintenance plan with documentation you keep.
Project-specific code review
Confirm the applicable requirements using the roof’s permit history, existing assembly and proposed work. A damage percentage alone does not settle the scope.
Licensing & permits
Commercial roof repairs and installations require a Florida-licensed contractor, and most need a permit from the local building department.
System choice
TPO for energy efficiency; metal for hurricane resistance and lifespan; modified bitumen where the deck calls for it.
Maintenance cadence
Annual and post-storm inspections, clear drains, prompt membrane repairs — where commercial roofs are won or lost.
Gutters, Soffit & Fascia
Gutters, soffit, and fascia do unglamorous work — and in Winter Haven they take the weather's first hit, every single day.

Fix the contained stuff, replace the far-gone stuff, and bundle edge work with any roof replacement — one mobilization instead of two. Seamless aluminum gutters carry our rainfall with the fewest joints to fail; vinyl soffit and aluminum fascia resist what the air here does to lesser materials.
Soft or spongy fascia
The material underneath is already compromised — past the repair window.
Stains on exterior walls
Water escaping the drainage path and running where it shouldn't.
Sagging, overflowing gutters
Chronic overflow usually means repairs are no longer keeping up.
Rust at the seams
Sectional gutters fail at their joints — seamless aluminum has far fewer of them.

| System | Realistic Florida life | Wind rating (installed right) | Cost tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal (standing seam) | Varies by product; ask for the warranty term | Product-specific; we show you the rating | $$$ | Longevity, storms, energy bills |
| Architectural shingle | About 20 years | Class H shingles: rated for design wind speeds up to 194 mph | $ | Value, fast storm repairs |
| Tile (clay/concrete) | Over 50 years | High, code-driven | $$$ | Permanence, the Florida look |
| Metlok (only at Universal) | 50-year limited lifetime warranty | 180+ mph tested wind rating | $$$ | Longevity, high-wind exposure |
What moves every quote regardless of material: pitch and complexity, the product tier within the material, specialist labor where tile demands it, and structural reinforcement when weight requires it. Florida law also requires insurers to offer premium credits for wind-resistant construction features — a wind mitigation inspection documents what your roof qualifies for.

Winter Haven Roofing Questions
Where do I find an older Winter Haven roof permit?
The city’s current page directs permit-history searches for 2025 and earlier to eSuite. It directs newer application and inspection work to Accela. Start with the year and address.
Which portal does Winter Haven use for a new roof project?
The current Building Permits & Licenses page links Accela for new applications, status, approved documents and inspection scheduling. Follow that city page for the latest instructions.
Is a final inspection the only roofing inspection record to ask about?
Ask about the stages applicable to your project. Winter Haven’s reroof inspection list includes work-in-progress dry-in/flashing and a final inspection, so clarify how those will be documented.
What should a Winter Haven roof replacement estimate include?
Look for the measured roof areas, chosen covering and underlayment, included edge and penetration work, disposal, and any exclusions. Ask how concealed damage will be documented and approved before extra work proceeds.
Can you assess a repair before recommending replacement?
Yes. An inspection helps distinguish a contained problem from wider deterioration. Ask which materials can remain, what the proposed repair addresses and whether any areas could not be inspected.
Is the roof inspection in Winter Haven free?
Yes. Universal offers a free roof inspection with photos and a written condition report, without an obligation to buy roofing work. Request a visit through the inspection form or call to discuss the property.
How should I plan the roof-work schedule?
Confirm material selection, access and any applicable approvals first. Ask for a project-specific window and how weather or concealed conditions could affect it. Do not assume every roof can be finished in the same number of days.
What information helps when I book a visit?
The property address, the building type, a description of the concern and any previous roof records. Tell us about separate additions, access arrangements or an association contact before the inspection.
