Universal Roof & Contracting helped save our home from poor workmanship done by another company. A re-roof was done on our home prior to purchasing by another local company. From the very beginning we had leaks and mildew do to poor workmanship. After fighting tooth-and-nail for months with the company just to get them to come out and stand by their transferable warranty we ended up getting the state involved. The department of licensing and professional regulation requested we get a second opinion on the roof by a different company. Universal Roof & Contracting was recommended to us by a friend, one of their guys by the name of the Ben I believe came out and did a walk-around and gave us a laundry list of poor workmanship and code violations which be submitted. The company was forced to come out and correct everything on the list. Universal Roof & Contracting was punctual and professional and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to get some work done.

We purchased a house in Jax Beach that needed a full roof replacement prior to closing, and David and his team made the entire process seamless. They were able to replace the roof within 48 hours of us reaching out, which was incredibly impressive given the tight timeline. The pricing was very fair, communication was great throughout the process, and the quality of work exceeded our expectations. We would absolutely use them again in the future for any roofing or gutter needs.

Where we work

About Middleburg

Middleburg is an unincorporated community in Clay County. It was settled in the 1820s as Clark's Ferry, a crossing on Black Creek, and became a major military depot during the Second Seminole War. It took its current name in the 1840s and in 1858 became the first seat of Clay County government.

The 4th Massachusetts Cavalry burned much of the town in 1864. Many of its houses date from the Victorian era and stand in a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, and the Methodist church on Main Street, built in 1847, is still in use. The 2020 Census counted 12,881 residents.

On these roofs

Middleburg Homes and What Their Roofs Face

The weather those roofs answer to is measurable. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Jacksonville station put annual rainfall at 53.4 inches, with 54% of it falling June through September and 7.6 inches in June alone. Most of that rain arrives in summer storms, often wind-driven, and it finds any weak flashing detail on Middleburg rooflines quickly.

Humidity, sun, and that rainfall all work on Middleburg roofs, and edges, penetrations and fasteners are where we start every inspection.

Storm exposure

Storms Middleburg Has Answered To

Middleburg sits in the inland storm region, and the record is specific: Irma (2017) — crossed Central Florida as a hurricane; minor to moderate damage to many structures, widespread tree damage (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017). Milton (2024) — hurricane-force gusts in Central Florida near the track; 14.83" of rain recorded near Orlando (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024).

After any of those, the useful thing a homeowner can do is document from the ground: photograph what is visible, note the date, check ceilings that night and again a week later. Then get a professional assessment before small openings become interior damage. We run storm routes across Clay County and put findings in writing with photographs — no scare tactics, no inflated damage lists.

Straight answers

Middleburg Roofing Questions

What time of year is best for roof work here?

Any month works — this is Florida, and roofs can't wait on weather windows anyway. Given the choice, fall wins: easier on crews and materials, and the new roof is in place ahead of storm season rather than behind it.

What should I do right after storm damage?

Three things: stay off the roof, photograph what's visible from the ground with the date, and get professional eyes up there quickly, because even small openings let water reach the decking. We run storm assessments across Clay County with tarping available the same visit where roofs need immediate protection.

Is the inspection really free?

Completely. You get the walkthrough, the photographs, and a written condition report at no cost, no strings — the report is yours even if we never hear from you again. Most end with 'you're fine, here's what to watch.'
