We were a little concerned picking a roofing company to do our house. Our biggest prerequisite of picking a company was longevity. It’s easy to say you have a warranty on your roof. That warranty is useless if the company is out of business. Which is why we chose Universal Roofing. David Roman was our sales rep. He explained all our options at the beginning and let us make the decision. What I really appreciated about David was he did the usual salesman routine trying to get us to commit on the spot. Once I told him I had other quotes I wanted to see he left it alone and didn’t hound me. Thank you for that David, you have no idea how much I appreciated it. Universal wasn’t the cheapest quote but then again you get what you pay for. Universal could have nickel and dimed me to get more money but THEY DIDN'T!!! They stood behind their quote!! That speaks volumes in my book. I have seen so many companies quote you a low price then add charges for any little issue. Once the roof was in the process of being replaced, Jhonatan Gil made the process seamless. Not only did he listen to my concerns; he acted on them and answered all my questions. We also had an unexpected issue pop up that Jhonatan handled flawlessly. He made our re-roof process so much more relaxing for what it could have been. Thank you Universal Roofing for standing behind your word and Thank you Jhonatan Gil for running the job perfectly!!

I had a roof that was long due for replacement. I did my homework and contacted several companies, and received estimates. My initial contact was with David in the sales department. He was extremely thorough, even using a drone to look at my roof and show it to me issues of concernon on hisl laptop. I liked how the company is able to integrate technology in a way that their customers can appreciate and understand. He offered me three different estimate based on various details I had requested. The company took care of everything with permits, and hauling away Construction debris, as well as clean up. . My project manager was.Yordanis, Who was always readily available by text, phone call or in person as he supervised the job. Wood replacement that my roof needed was a little more than I expected. Yordanis Shared detailed images of damaged areas needing replacement, and I was in agreement with all of his evaluations. The most surprising thing to me was that his crew was able to get the entire job complete, including cleanup in one day. his team was focused and hard-working. I would highly recommend Universal Roofing and construction to anyone needing Roofing work.
Everything went smoothly especially considering I was selling my house at the time. The work was good and the communication was as well. The only reason I wouldn't give it a 5 star was the original color I had ordered ended up not being available without a special order which meant a considerable delay. With my house on the market, I didn't have the time. I have to say I was disappointed that I had to compromise on the color.
We had to have the roof replaced at our primary home in the Orlando area last year by Universal because our insurance company was dropping us. Everyone we interacted with in the company was extremely professional, communication throughout the process was great, and the roof looks amazing! Thanks again, Universal!
Was very pleased with Universal. They were wonderful to work with and made it so easy for me as I live in CT and was selling my parents home in FL. They helped with financing and kept me in contact with the crew supervisor throughout the projects. I received constant updates and status reports, no surprises - when they saw I needed additional sheeting, they got permission from me first rather than surprising me at the conclusion of the job. They sent pictures showing their inspection findings as well as final pictures. I couldn't be more pleased with Mr. Yordanis Segura and his team. Job well done, highly recommend.
The team the company sent out was amazing. The most efficient and speedy group of workers I’ve ever seen. My roof looks beautiful and the price was excellent. I don’t give reviews usually, but this company deserves the time.
They did a very good job and I was very pleased with the overall project.Yordanis The project manager stayed in touch with me throughout the project and after the project was done thank you very much for all your help and assistance. Also want to say Alonso who was onsite was very good and detailed oriented in making sure project was completed according to the specifications. Thank you. Would recommend them.
Used Universal Roof and Contracting to replace my existing roof. Results were excellent. No issues with the products, workers or scheduling. Would use Universal again if needed. Materials and installation came with warranty. All work carried out in professional manner. Good Job.
Excellent service. Extensive water damage discovered and repaired on my roof. We had no idea since our home was only 10 years old. Before long we would have had water damage inside the house if not discovered and repaired. URC did a great job for us! Very pleased with the results.

Universal Roof & Contracting serves Venice with every major roofing service — repair, replacement, inspections, storm response, gutters, and all four mainstream roof systems — from our Tampa Bay office. Family-owned since 1993, BBB-accredited with an A+ rating, and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred. This page is the whole picture in one place; every section links to the full service behind it.
What Venice Does to a Roof
Three forces set the terms for every roof in Venice. Understand them and every material and maintenance decision on this page makes sense.
Sun
Strong sun breaks down shingle asphalt and fades finishes over time, so Florida roofs need regular checks.
Salt
Gulf salt air corrodes exposed metal fasteners, flashing, and gutter seams. Corrosion-resistant materials matter this close to the coast.
Storms
Summer squall lines and the occasional named storm bring hard, wind-driven rain that finds every weak detail.
46.65"
annual rainfall at the St Petersburg Ap station
63%
of it falls June through September

Roof Repair in Venice
Roof trouble in Venice rarely announces itself. It starts as one lifted shingle or a slow drip at a flashing joint — and the difference between a cheap fix and a big one is how soon someone looks.

We run repair crews through the Suncoast year-round. The visit covers the damage plus the field, flashing, and penetrations around it — repairs that buy years beat replacements that weren't necessary yet.
Emergencies get tarped same-visit where access allows, with the permanent fix documented in photos behind it.
Wind-lifted tabs
One good gust finds every marginal fastener. Small patch now, or decking work later.
Granules in the gutters
Shingle surfaces shedding — the field is aging, and it's time to watch it.
A stain that wasn't there
Interior spots mean the leak has a head start — water travels the deck before it drops.
Flashing and fastener wear
A common leak point, and one Florida weather works on early.
Roof Replacement
What actually drives a replacement quote — and how concealed damage is handled if tear-off uncovers it.

A completed Universal replacement — one to three days on most homes.
The quote you get is an itemized scope, not a number on a business card — and it's built from what your roof actually needs: tear-off depth, decking condition, the material system, and the flashing and ventilation details that decide whether a roof reaches its rated life. As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor, our warranty options go beyond what the standard tiers allow.
Around the Suncoast, we schedule replacements ahead of storm season where the calendar allows, bundle roof-edge work when it makes financial sense, and finish most homes in one to three days — protected landscaping and a magnet-swept yard included.
Size, pitch & complexity
Cut-up roofs with dormers and valleys take longer than simple gables — and price accordingly.
Tear-off & decking
How many layers come up, and what the decking looks like once exposed. You approve anything it reveals.
The material system
Shingle, metal, tile, or slate — specified for Florida exposure, not upsold.
Flashing & ventilation
The details that separate a code-minimum job from one that reaches its rated life.
Every Venice replacement starts with the free inspection.
Roof Inspections
Check your roof twice a year, in spring and fall, plus after any major blow. Our inspection is free, documented, and pressure-free.
Field & fasteners
Wear, granule loss, and fastener condition across the whole covering.
Flashing & penetrations
Common leak points, so we check every boot, valley, and transition.
The roof edge
Soffit, fascia, and gutters for rot, separation, and pest entry.
The attic side
Moisture staining, ventilation problems, and daylight where there shouldn't be any.
Coastal corrosion
Salt-air wear on fasteners and flashing gets extra attention on every coastal roof.
Findings come back as photographs and a written condition report — not a verbal opinion from the driveway. Many inspections end with "you're fine, here's what to watch," and the report is yours whether or not you ever hire us. If you're buying or selling in Sarasota County, the same visit produces the roof documentation the transaction needs, from a licensed contractor rather than a checklist service.

Storm Damage in Venice
Venice sits on the Gulf side of the storm ledger — and 2024 wrote two entries in two weeks. After it passes, a five-minute ground check tells you whether to call.
01 Ground scan first
Never climb after a storm. Missing tabs, sagging ridge lines, and displaced flashing all show from the yard.
02 Read the downspouts
A pile of granules at the splash block is the roof reporting damage.
03 Circle the property
Shingle pieces and drip-edge sections in the grass map where the wind got in.
04 Check ceilings that night
And again in a week — storm water can take days to show inside.
05 Document and call
Photos with dates from the ground; our written assessment fills in the rest.
Helene
dangerous storm surge into the Gulf coast, including coastal Pinellas (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092024)
Milton
landfall on Siesta Key; 20.40" of rain near St. Petersburg; record crests on the Hillsborough River (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024)
Ian
one of the costliest hurricanes in Florida history; severe wind and flooding across the southwest coast (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092022)
Storm response here works in two speeds: immediate protection (tarps and temporary seals, same visit where access allows) and documented assessment (photographs, findings, and repair scope in writing). No scare tactics, no inflated damage lists. We have been roofing in Florida since 1993.
Residential Roofing
The right roof for a Venice home follows the house, the owner's horizon, and the budget across thirty years — not the material a salesman happens to carry.

We install every mainstream system — shingle, metal, tile, and flat — so the recommendation follows your house and budget, not whichever material a contractor happens to sell. The full comparison is below.
The house & neighborhood
Age, style, and what the street is built around — a roof has to belong where it lives.
Your ownership horizon
Selling in five years and staying thirty produce different right answers.
Budget, now vs. 30 years
Upfront cost against lifetime cost — repairs, energy, and how many more roofs you'll buy.
Installation quality
The same materials last longer or fail early depending on underlayment, ventilation, and flashing work.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Commercial Roofing
A commercial roof in Venice protects inventory, equipment, and people, and it is built under the Florida Building Code, rated among the strongest of the hurricane-coast states by IBHS.

The right system follows the building — deck construction, equipment loads, drainage, and how long you're holding it. White TPO reflects heat and helps with cooling costs; properly fastened metal performs well in high winds; modified bitumen remains a proven choice on the right deck.
What keeps any of them performing is cadence: inspections every year and after every storm, clear drains, prompt small repairs. We run that cadence on a maintenance plan with documentation you keep.
The 25% rule
If more than 25% of a roof section is repaired or replaced within 12 months, the whole section must meet current code, unless the roof was built to the 2007 Florida Building Code or later.
Licensing & permits
Commercial roof repairs and installations require a Florida-licensed contractor, and most need a permit from the local building department.
System choice
TPO for energy efficiency; metal for hurricane resistance and lifespan; modified bitumen where the deck calls for it.
Maintenance cadence
Annual and post-storm inspections, clear drains, prompt membrane repairs — where commercial roofs are won or lost.
Gutters, Soffit & Fascia
In Venice, the roof edge is a common place for water damage to start: soffit, fascia, and gutters can fail quietly before anyone notices.

The repair-or-replace call at the edge is simpler than the roof's: contained damage gets patched, widespread rot gets replaced, and either way the smart schedule pairs edge work with a roof project or lands it in fall before storm season. We spec vinyl soffit, aluminum fascia, and seamless gutters as the default Florida kit.
Soft or spongy fascia
The material underneath is already compromised — past the repair window.
Stains on exterior walls
Water escaping the drainage path and running where it shouldn't.
Sagging, overflowing gutters
Chronic overflow usually means repairs are no longer keeping up.
Rust at the seams
Sectional gutters fail at their joints — seamless aluminum has far fewer of them.

| System | Realistic Florida life | Wind rating (installed right) | Cost tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal (standing seam) | Varies by product; ask for the warranty term | Product-specific; we show you the rating | $$$ | Longevity, storms, energy bills |
| Architectural shingle | About 20 years | Class H shingles: rated for design wind speeds up to 194 mph | $ | Value, fast storm repairs |
| Tile (clay/concrete) | Over 50 years | High, code-driven | $$$ | Permanence, the Florida look |
| Metlok (only at Universal) | 50-year limited lifetime warranty | 180+ mph tested wind rating | $$$ | Longevity, high-wind exposure |
What moves every quote regardless of material: pitch and complexity, the product tier within the material, specialist labor where tile demands it, and structural reinforcement when weight requires it. Florida law also requires insurers to offer premium credits for wind-resistant construction features — a wind mitigation inspection documents what your roof qualifies for.

Venice Roofing Questions
How long do roofs last in Venice?
In Venice plan on about 20 years from architectural shingle and more than 50 from clay or concrete tile with proper care, based on a National Association of Home Builders study. Metal life depends on the product, so ask for its warranty term. The installer's discipline matters more to those numbers than the brand on the wrapper.
Repair or replace — how do you decide?
Localized damage on a roof with life left: repair. Widespread wear, repeating leaks, or a roof near the end of its lifespan: replacement is often a better value than repeated patching. We put the recommendation in writing with photos so you can decide without pressure.
What should I do right after storm damage?
From the ground: photograph the damage you can see, note when it happened, and check ceilings that night and again in a week. Then get it professionally assessed — we cover Sarasota County with same-week storm visits, emergency tarping, and written, photographed reports.
Can a handyman repair a roof in Florida?
No. Florida's licensing agency says roof repairs and roof installations require a state license. Verify the license and insurance before hiring anyone. Universal Roof & Contracting is state-licensed (CCC057165 & CBC1258484) and fully insured.
What does a roof replacement cost in Venice?
No honest number exists without seeing the roof — size, pitch, tear-off depth, decking condition, and the material system move the total more than any average can capture. What we promise Venice homeowners instead: a free inspection first, then a line-by-line estimate where the approved price is the built price.
Is the inspection really free?
Completely. You get the walkthrough, the photographs, and a written condition report at no cost, no strings — the report is yours even if we never hear from you again. Most end with 'you're fine, here's what to watch.'
How long does a roof installation take?
One to three days for most Venice homes, start to magnet-swept yard. Tile, steep, and cut-up roofs run longer; commercial ranges from days to weeks by size. You get a realistic window before work starts — and a heads-up if weather moves it.
What time of year is best for roof work here?
Any month works — this is Florida, and roofs can't wait on weather windows anyway. Given the choice, fall wins: easier on crews and materials, and the new roof is in place ahead of storm season rather than behind it.
What is the 25% roof rule in Florida?
Under the Florida Building Code, repairing or replacing more than 25% of a roof section within 12 months generally means the whole section must be brought up to current code. Roofs built to the 2007 code or later are exempt: only the repaired part must meet current code.
