After damage from Milton I met with 4 roofing companies. I opted to go with Universal after discussing my options with Richard Adamson. He laid out clearly what would be needed, and then later returned to go over the selection and explain the warranty etc. Marissa went over the scheduling and what the expected procedures are once they start. She was also very understanding of my issues with my insurer and accommodated a last minute re-schedule. Yordanis had the roofing crew there at sun-up, and they were done by mid-afternoon. Besides the obvious noise, one would be hard pressed to know they had just replaced my roof. Two days later a Pasco county inspector came and gave the all-clear. Two days after that, Yordanis had another crew at my house to install the gutters. I had a couple of queries once all was said and done, and Yordanis was very prompt at returning my texts. All in all, a very expeditious and satisfying process once I got passed the insurance company.

Great company to work with. I looked thru Angie's list for several companies to get qoutes from and out of the many that I sent to only 4 replied and gave me qoutes.Universal was very professional, starting with David as the estimator that walked me thru what he found when he went up on the roof ( many companies try to give qoutes using drone or Google maps, but David actually got up there and physically checked to get a more definitive qoute and what will be needed.)down to Thomas the GC for the project and his guys. They were constantly communicating with me and the progress of the whole project. The guys that did the work on my roof were very courteous and super hard workers. It was extremely hot those 2 days that they were up there. They protected my yard and all the plants that I have around my house including my a/c system outside. I will definitely recommend this company to my friends and neighbors.
I had great experience with Universal roof & contracting. They are a very well organized company and treated me with the best service. My salesman was Dakota and made the process smooth. My project manager was Yordanis, he was great, very well experienced, and answered all my questions. Thank you!
Universal Roof & contracting came and gave me a quote for my roof I couldn't pass. I had a great experience overall. Universal didn't miss or leave anything out at all. My project manager was Yordanis, He was kind and informed me on anything that happened on the job. My salesman was Dee and explain all different options there were. He was also great and and very informative.
Bob and I would like to share our experience with Universal Roof and Contracting/Tampa. We recently determined we needed a new roof and reached out to five companies to get estimates. Of the five David Labaze stood out with his product knowledge and patience to answer any all all questions regarding our selection of Owens Corning Shingles, and Universal Roofing. He even went so far as to bring out a product board for us to bring to our HOA for approval. Once that determination was made we were assigned Yordanis Segura as our Project Manger who immediately gave us peace of mind as he was our contact through the entire roofing project. He was on top of every step of our roofing project including inspecting the work of the professionals installing various aspects of our project. In conclusion, David and Yordanis are two standout employees of Universal, which is giving us the confidence and security of our new roof covering our home. Both of us would not hesitate to give our recommendation for your new roofing experience. Bob and Kathy Hemann
My wife and I were in need of a new roof for insurance reasons. There was nothing wrong with our roof except that we live in Florida. We had estimates from 4-5 other companies who would open the estimate process at twice the actual price they would ultimately end up at before leaving our home. My wife was very upset with the process until we had Richard Adamson from Universal Roof and Contracting to the house to give us yet another estimate. He was refreshingly genuine and straight forward about his product and company and what they could do for us. He gave us a fair estimate and put my wife at ease over the whole process. We agreed to have the job done. There were some bumps along the way that were handled professionally and promptly. The finished product is beautiful. We couldn’t be happier with how nicely everything came out. Thank you not only to Richard but also the whole crew for a job well done. Hopefully I’ll never need another roof in my lifetime but I have already passed on their info to several people in need of a reputable roofing company. They are hard to come by. Thanks again.
Rich Adamson from Universal made a horrific experience into a tolerable one. Following hurricane Ian, we needed to get a new roof. Rich fought hard for us all through the insurance process. We ended up having to sue our carrier for coverage of the damage but Rich’s calm demeanor and knowledgeable resources helped us go step by step through the process. We now have a new roof and we couldn’t be happier. I would recommend Universal Roof and Rich to anyone without hesitation.
On January 2024 I had wind damage, after contact my insurance, I called Mr David Roman, and I explained my situation. Universal roof & contracting it’s has been very professional with un excellent customer service easy to communicate. Mr. David came to my house and explained to me all the details for the roof replacement, he always answered my calls, he’s a very smart and knowledgeable person as well the rest of the great team at Universal roof & contracting seem around my street many houses getting theirs roof replaced, but you can see the difference and quality of the job in my house, It was done professionally. I’m being very blessed to have my roof replaced for a professional and great company like Universal roof & contracting, thanks and thanks to Mr David Roman!
I’d like to thank Brian Blakely for the great job done. I was very worried that I would get scammed but he was so patient with me and my grandpa 👴🏾 showing us step by step how the process worked. You rock Brian. I will refer universal roofing company to anyone.

What Englewood Does to a Roof
Roofs across the Suncoast answer to three things, all year, every year. Here's what each one does — with the numbers behind it.
Sun
Strong sun breaks down shingle asphalt and fades finishes over time, so Florida roofs need regular checks.
Salt
Gulf salt air corrodes exposed metal fasteners, flashing, and gutter seams. Corrosion-resistant materials matter this close to the coast.
Storms
Summer squall lines and the occasional named storm bring hard, wind-driven rain that finds every weak detail.
46.65"
annual rainfall at the St Petersburg Ap station
63%
of it falls June through September

Roof Repair in Englewood
Roof trouble in Englewood rarely announces itself. It starts as one lifted shingle or a slow drip at a flashing joint — and the difference between a cheap fix and a big one is how soon someone looks.

A Englewood repair call gets a whole-roof look, not a spot patch: the damage you reported, then the surrounding field, every flashing, and every penetration — because the second leak is usually forming near the first. If the honest answer is a repair, that's the recommendation you get in writing.
Active water gets stopped first: tarp or seal on the spot where access allows, permanent repair scheduled right behind it, photos of both in your records.
Wind-lifted tabs
One good gust finds every marginal fastener. Small patch now, or decking work later.
Granules in the gutters
Shingle surfaces shedding — the field is aging, and it's time to watch it.
Ceiling stains
By the time water shows inside, it's been traveling the deck for a while. Call now, not next month.
Flashing and fastener wear
A common leak point, and one Florida weather works on early.
Roof Replacement
What actually drives a replacement quote — and how concealed damage is handled if tear-off uncovers it.

A completed Universal replacement — one to three days on most homes.
The quote you get is an itemized scope, not a number on a business card — and it's built from what your roof actually needs: tear-off depth, decking condition, the material system, and the flashing and ventilation details that decide whether a roof reaches its rated life. As an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor, our warranty options go beyond what the standard tiers allow.
Around the Suncoast, we schedule replacements ahead of storm season where the calendar allows, bundle roof-edge work when it makes financial sense, and finish most homes in one to three days — protected landscaping and a magnet-swept yard included.
Size, pitch & complexity
Cut-up roofs with dormers and valleys take longer than simple gables — and price accordingly.
Tear-off & decking
How many layers come up, and what the decking looks like once exposed. You approve anything it reveals.
The material system
Shingle, metal, tile, or slate — specified for Florida exposure, not upsold.
Flashing & ventilation
The details that separate a code-minimum job from one that reaches its rated life.
Every Englewood replacement starts with the free inspection.
Roof Inspections
Check your roof twice a year, in spring and fall, plus after any major blow. Our inspection is free, documented, and pressure-free.
Field & fasteners
Wear, granule loss, and fastener condition across the whole covering.
Flashing & penetrations
Common leak points, so we check every boot, valley, and transition.
The roof edge
Soffit, fascia, and gutters for rot, separation, and pest entry.
The attic side
Moisture staining, ventilation problems, and daylight where there shouldn't be any.
Coastal corrosion
Salt-air wear on fasteners and flashing gets extra attention on every coastal roof.
What you get is a documented condition file: photos, findings, remaining-life assessment, in writing, free. We built the process for homeowners across the Suncoast who want evidence instead of sales pressure — many inspections end with a clean bill and a watch list, and the report belongs to you either way.

Storm Damage in Englewood
Englewood sits on the Gulf side of the storm ledger — and 2024 wrote two entries in two weeks. After it passes, a five-minute ground check tells you whether to call.
01 Ground scan first
Never climb after a storm. Missing tabs, sagging ridge lines, and displaced flashing all show from the yard.
02 Read the downspouts
A pile of granules at the splash block is the roof reporting damage.
03 Circle the property
Shingle pieces and drip-edge sections in the grass map where the wind got in.
04 Check ceilings that night
And again in a week — storm water can take days to show inside.
05 Document and call
Photos with dates from the ground; our written assessment fills in the rest.
Helene
dangerous storm surge into the Gulf coast, including coastal Pinellas (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092024)
Milton
landfall on Siesta Key; 20.40" of rain near St. Petersburg; record crests on the Hillsborough River (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024)
Ian
one of the costliest hurricanes in Florida history; severe wind and flooding across the southwest coast (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092022)
We bring same-week assessments across Sarasota County, emergency tarping when the roof needs immediate protection, and a written, photographed damage report — what happened and what fixing it involves, no scare tactics. Material choice is storm strategy too: every system carries its own tested wind rating, so we show you the rating for the exact product before you choose.
Residential Roofing
Asphalt shingle is the default on many Englewood homes, but the default isn't automatically the right answer for your house.

We install every mainstream system — shingle, metal, tile, and flat — so the recommendation follows your house and budget, not whichever material a contractor happens to sell. The full comparison is below.
The house & neighborhood
Age, style, and what the street is built around — a roof has to belong where it lives.
Your ownership horizon
Selling in five years and staying thirty produce different right answers.
Budget, now vs. 30 years
Upfront cost against lifetime cost — repairs, energy, and how many more roofs you'll buy.
Installation quality
The same materials last longer or fail early depending on underlayment, ventilation, and flashing work.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Commercial Roofing
A commercial roof in Englewood protects inventory, equipment, and people, and it is built under the Florida Building Code, rated among the strongest of the hurricane-coast states by IBHS.

Commercial decisions in Englewood come down to decades-math: purchase price against energy costs, storm resilience, and maintenance across the building's life. We'll show the comparison for your specific building rather than defaulting to whichever membrane is on the truck.
Then maintenance decides everything: annual and post-storm inspections, drains kept clear, membrane and flashing repairs done promptly. Our plans put all of it on a documented schedule so the roof's history is always current and provable.
The 25% rule
If more than 25% of a roof section is repaired or replaced within 12 months, the whole section must meet current code, unless the roof was built to the 2007 Florida Building Code or later.
Licensing & permits
Commercial roof repairs and installations require a Florida-licensed contractor, and most need a permit from the local building department.
System choice
TPO for energy efficiency; metal for hurricane resistance and lifespan; modified bitumen where the deck calls for it.
Maintenance cadence
Annual and post-storm inspections, clear drains, prompt membrane repairs — where commercial roofs are won or lost.
Gutters, Soffit & Fascia
Gutters, soffit, and fascia do unglamorous work — and in Englewood they take the weather's first hit, every single day.

Edge work follows a simple ladder: patch the isolated failure, replace the systemic one, and whenever a roof replacement is on the calendar, do the edge at the same time and save a second mobilization. Our default spec is seamless aluminum gutters, aluminum fascia, and vented vinyl soffit, chosen for what Florida air and rainfall actually do to materials.
Soft or spongy fascia
The material underneath is already compromised — past the repair window.
Stains on exterior walls
Water escaping the drainage path and running where it shouldn't.
Sagging, overflowing gutters
Chronic overflow usually means repairs are no longer keeping up.
Rust at the seams
Sectional gutters fail at their joints — seamless aluminum has far fewer of them.

| System | Realistic Florida life | Wind rating (installed right) | Cost tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal (standing seam) | Varies by product; ask for the warranty term | Product-specific; we show you the rating | $$$ | Longevity, storms, energy bills |
| Architectural shingle | About 20 years | Class H shingles: rated for design wind speeds up to 194 mph | $ | Value, fast storm repairs |
| Tile (clay/concrete) | Over 50 years | High, code-driven | $$$ | Permanence, the Florida look |
| Metlok (only at Universal) | 50-year limited lifetime warranty | 180+ mph tested wind rating | $$$ | Longevity, high-wind exposure |
What moves every quote regardless of material: pitch and complexity, the product tier within the material, specialist labor where tile demands it, and structural reinforcement when weight requires it. Florida law also requires insurers to offer premium credits for wind-resistant construction features — a wind mitigation inspection documents what your roof qualifies for.

Englewood Roofing Questions
How long do roofs last in Englewood?
Shingle: about 20 years. Tile: more than 50 with care, per a National Association of Home Builders study. Metal depends on the product, so ask for its warranty term. Installation quality decides which end of the range your roof lands on.
Repair or replace — how do you decide?
Two questions decide it: how contained is the damage, and how much life does the field have left? Contained plus years remaining equals repair; spreading wear or a roof in its last stretch equals a replacement conversation, since patch money on a dying roof rarely buys much time. Either way, our recommendation comes documented.
What should I do right after storm damage?
From the ground: photograph the damage you can see, note when it happened, and check ceilings that night and again in a week. Then get it professionally assessed — we cover Sarasota County with same-week storm visits, emergency tarping, and written, photographed reports.
Can a handyman repair a roof in Florida?
No. Florida's licensing agency says roof repairs and roof installations require a state license. Verify the license and insurance before hiring anyone. Universal Roof & Contracting is state-licensed (CCC057165 & CBC1258484) and fully insured.
What does a roof replacement cost in Englewood?
It depends on five things: roof size and pitch, tear-off complexity, decking condition once opened, the material system you choose, and the flashing and ventilation details done right. Anyone quoting a number without seeing the roof is guessing. Our estimates are free, line-by-line, and based on an actual inspection.
Is the inspection really free?
Yes — photos, honest findings, and a written condition report, free, whether or not you hire us for anything. Many inspections end with 'you're fine, here's what to watch.'
How long does a roof installation take?
Day one is usually tear-off and dry-in; most homes are shingled and swept by day two or three. Tile, steep pitches, and extra layers stretch the schedule, and weather gets a veto — but you'll have the realistic window before we start, and updates if it moves.
What time of year is best for roof work here?
Roofing runs twelve months a year across the Suncoast, but if you can choose, choose fall: cooler working conditions, better material handling, and a finished roof standing before the next storm season opens.
What is the 25% roof rule in Florida?
Under the Florida Building Code, repairing or replacing more than 25% of a roof section within 12 months generally means the whole section must be brought up to current code. Roofs built to the 2007 code or later are exempt: only the repaired part must meet current code.
