Bob and I would like to share our experience with Universal Roof and Contracting/Tampa. We recently determined we needed a new roof and reached out to five companies to get estimates. Of the five David Labaze stood out with his product knowledge and patience to answer any all all questions regarding our selection of Owens Corning Shingles, and Universal Roofing. He even went so far as to bring out a product board for us to bring to our HOA for approval. Once that determination was made we were assigned Yordanis Segura as our Project Manger who immediately gave us peace of mind as he was our contact through the entire roofing project. He was on top of every step of our roofing project including inspecting the work of the professionals installing various aspects of our project. In conclusion, David and Yordanis are two standout employees of Universal, which is giving us the confidence and security of our new roof covering our home. Both of us would not hesitate to give our recommendation for your new roofing experience. Bob and Kathy Hemann

I had great experience with Universal roof & contracting. They are a very well organized company and treated me with the best service. My salesman was Dakota and made the process smooth. My project manager was Yordanis, he was great, very well experienced, and answered all my questions. Thank you!

After damage from Milton I met with 4 roofing companies. I opted to go with Universal after discussing my options with Richard Adamson. He laid out clearly what would be needed, and then later returned to go over the selection and explain the warranty etc. Marissa went over the scheduling and what the expected procedures are once they start. She was also very understanding of my issues with my insurer and accommodated a last minute re-schedule. Yordanis had the roofing crew there at sun-up, and they were done by mid-afternoon. Besides the obvious noise, one would be hard pressed to know they had just replaced my roof. Two days later a Pasco county inspector came and gave the all-clear. Two days after that, Yordanis had another crew at my house to install the gutters. I had a couple of queries once all was said and done, and Yordanis was very prompt at returning my texts. All in all, a very expeditious and satisfying process once I got passed the insurance company.

Before the work begins

What Belongs in a Gulfport Roofing Proposal

Gulfport’s reroof checklist makes the scope tangible: it asks for the roof’s number of squares, pitch and building stories, along with product documentation. Its metal and tile instructions also identify the underlayment as information to specify. For an owner comparing bids, those are useful questions to ask before choosing on price. Two proposals with the same headline material can describe different assemblies or amounts of work.

Use the city’s Building Permits for Residents page to find current application and inspection services. Keep the roof’s proposed covering, supporting documents and final accepted scope together. If the property has more than one roof section, a porch or a separately covered addition, ask whether each is included. The project description should make exclusions visible, especially where different materials meet.

A Gulfport home does not need a particular roof simply because it is near the coast. Ask how the proposed system fits the actual building, what maintenance it will need and which details are most exposed on this property. Where rooftop equipment is present, establish who will coordinate access or associated work. Our inspection can help turn an unclear leak complaint into a documented choice between a focused repair and a larger replacement scope.

The inspection conversation

Repair or Replacement for Your Gulfport Property

A Gulfport repair estimate should identify the roof plane and detail being repaired, not just say 'fix leak.' Ask whether the work includes the junction with a porch or addition and whether the nearby material remains serviceable. Photos give you a reference for comparing the agreed scope with the completed repair.

When comparing metal or tile proposals in Gulfport, ask for the underlayment to be identified alongside the visible covering. Confirm roof quantities and any separate sections before treating two prices as equivalent. Keep the product information with the final project record for future maintenance.

The housing stock

Gulfport Homes and What Their Roofs Face

The weather those roofs answer to is measurable. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the St Petersburg Ap station put annual rainfall at 46.65 inches, with 63% of it falling June through September and 8.39 inches in August alone. Most of that rain arrives in summer storms, often wind-driven, and it finds any weak flashing detail on Gulfport rooflines quickly.

Salt, sun, and that rainfall all work on Gulfport roofs, and edges, penetrations and fasteners are where we start every inspection.

Not sure which of these your roof needs?

Storms Gulfport Has Answered To

Gulfport sits in the Gulf storm region, and the record is specific: Helene (2024) — dangerous storm surge into the Gulf coast, including coastal Pinellas (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092024). Milton (2024) — landfall on Siesta Key; 20.40" of rain near St. Petersburg; record crests on the Hillsborough River (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024).

After any of those, the useful thing a homeowner can do is document from the ground: photograph what is visible, note the date, check ceilings that night and again a week later. Then get a professional assessment before small openings become interior damage. We run storm routes across Pinellas County and put findings in writing with photographs — no scare tactics, no inflated damage lists.

Straight answers

Gulfport Roofing Questions

What measurements does Gulfport list for a reroof application?

The city’s checklist names roof squares, pitch and number of stories. These describe the roof more accurately than a home’s interior floor area alone.

Why ask about underlayment on a Gulfport metal or tile roof?

The city’s reroof checklist calls for it to be specified for these materials. It is also part of understanding exactly which assembly the proposal includes, beyond the visible roof surface.

Where do Gulfport owners find current permit services?

Use the City of Gulfport’s Building Permits for Residents page. It links application and inspection resources; verify the instructions for your project rather than using another Pinellas municipality’s process.

What should a Gulfport roof replacement estimate include?

Look for the measured roof areas, chosen covering and underlayment, included edge and penetration work, disposal, and any exclusions. Ask how concealed damage will be documented and approved before extra work proceeds.

Can you assess a repair before recommending replacement?

Yes. An inspection helps distinguish a contained problem from wider deterioration. Ask which materials can remain, what the proposed repair addresses and whether any areas could not be inspected.

Is the roof inspection in Gulfport free?

Yes. Universal offers a free roof inspection with photos and a written condition report, without an obligation to buy roofing work. Request a visit through the inspection form or call to discuss the property.

How should I plan the roof-work schedule?

Confirm material selection, access and any applicable approvals first. Ask for a project-specific window and how weather or concealed conditions could affect it. Do not assume every roof can be finished in the same number of days.

What information helps when I book a visit?

The property address, the building type, a description of the concern and any previous roof records. Tell us about separate additions, access arrangements or an association contact before the inspection.
