This company is very impressive!!!! Very responsive and did great work! During the selling of this home, the inspector revealed some roof issues as our gutter installers caused some minor damage to a few shingles 3 years ago. Damian, from Universal Roofing came out and made all repairs “under warranty” without hesitation. VERY IMPRESSED WITH THIS COMPANY and always loved our new roof!!!!!

Universal Roof & Contracting installed a new roof on my home. It was a big job, including asphalt shingles, 2 sections of flat roof, 5 skylights, gutters and solar panels. From the inspection with Mike, who answered all of my questions, to Raven in the office and Tony who was my project manager, the process was great. Tony was very responsive in making sure that all final details like a chimney cap installation and minor clean up were completed. All of the workers were very polite and worked very hard. Our roof looks great and we are very happy with the service Universal provided.

About Tavares

Tavares is an incorporated city and the county seat of Lake County. It was founded in 1880 by Alexander St. Clair-Abrams, a newspaper and railroad man from New Orleans, who gave it the surname of a Portuguese ancestor.

Downtown lies on the shores of Lake Dora, Wooton Park sits one block from Main Street, and the Dora Canal runs through the city. The city-owned Tavares Seaplane Base, which the State of Florida licensed as a public airport in 2010, gave the city its nickname, America's Seaplane City. The 2020 Census counted 19,003 residents.

Tavares Homes and What Their Roofs Face

The weather those roofs answer to is measurable. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Orlando Intl Ap station put annual rainfall at 51.45 inches, with 57% of it falling June through September and 8.05 inches in June alone. Most of that rain arrives in summer storms, often wind-driven, and it finds any weak flashing detail on Tavares rooflines quickly.

Combine that rainfall with inland humidity and UV, and Tavares roofs have a lot working on them. We inspect the details first: flashing, penetrations, the roof edge.

Weather history

Storms Tavares Has Answered To

Tavares sits in the inland storm region, and the record is specific: Irma (2017) — crossed Central Florida as a hurricane; minor to moderate damage to many structures, widespread tree damage (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017). Milton (2024) — hurricane-force gusts in Central Florida near the track; 14.83" of rain recorded near Orlando (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024).

After any of those, the useful thing a homeowner can do is document from the ground: photograph what is visible, note the date, check ceilings that night and again a week later. Then get a professional assessment before small openings become interior damage. We run storm routes across Lake County and put findings in writing with photographs — no scare tactics, no inflated damage lists.

Straight answers

Tavares Roofing Questions

How long does a roof installation take?

Most residential replacements finish in one to three days. Tile and complex roofs run longer, and commercial projects range from days to weeks by size. We give you a realistic window up front.

Repair or replace — how do you decide?

Repair when the damage is local and the roof has life left. Replace when wear is systemic — repeating leaks, widespread granule loss, a field past its span. We photograph what we find and put the recommendation on paper, so you're deciding on evidence rather than a pitch.

What does a roof replacement cost in Tavares?

Five inputs set it: size and pitch, how many layers come off, what the decking looks like underneath, which system goes on, and the detail work at flashings and ventilation. That's why quotes-by-phone are guesses. Ours start with a free inspection and arrive itemized, line by line.
