Wow! Our 17 year old roof replacement by Universal Roof started with Sales Manager Justin Feb coming to the house and explaining the entire process in detail. He could not have been nicer or more informative. Michael Ramos was assigned as our Project Manager over a crew of about 10 men. Michael was the best. He and his crew arrived at 6:15am and worked straight through until the job was done around 5:30, just taking one lunch break. Michael explained all the details. I highly recommend Universal Roof and Contracting.

Universal Roofing did an outstanding job on my roof repairs! From the initial inspection by Dylan Grow to the construction work led by Damian Crawford, the entire process was smooth and professional. Their expertise, clear communication, and attention to detail made everything stress-free, and the results speak for themselves—excellent workmanship! I highly recommend Universal Roofing. Thank you for a job well done!

I interviewed seven different roofing companies before I chose to sign a contract with Universal Roofing and Contracting. I was especially impressed with their representative, Jason Serrano. He answered all of my questions, but more importantly, he LISTENED to what I wanted. The contract I signed was specifically tailored to MY needs; it wasn't some standard job. It took a few weeks after I signed to get the right permits, but then the project moved quickly. Michael Ramos served as my project manager, and he kept me informed as the roof was put on. He showed me photos of the damaged spots, and of the completed work. I was pleasantly surprised that the actual work was completed in only one day (I have a very large roof on my 2,100 square foot one story house.) I am very pleased with my new roof, and I am happy to recommend Universal Roof and Contracting to anyone who needs a new roof

About Mount Dora

Mount Dora is an incorporated city in Lake County. Its first postmaster was appointed in 1880, when the settlement was known as Royellou, and in 1883 it took the name Mount Dora after nearby Lake Dora. The town received its charter in 1910, with Capt. John Philip Donnelly as its first mayor.

The Lakeside Inn, which opened in 1883 as The Alexander House, is still in operation, and Donnelly's 1893 Queen Anne-style home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The city says it is widely known for its antique and specialty shops and a calendar of events held throughout the year. The 2020 Census counted 16,341 residents.

On these roofs

Mount Dora Homes and What Their Roofs Face

Census QuickFacts puts Mount Dora at about 18,791 residents, 61.7% owner-occupied, a median home value near $381,900. Owner-occupied housing changes what a roof decision means: owners who plan to stay usually get more from the system with the longest service life for the money than from the fastest cosmetic fix.

The weather those roofs answer to is measurable. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Orlando Intl Ap station put annual rainfall at 51.45 inches, with 57% of it falling June through September and 8.05 inches in June alone. Most of that rain arrives in summer storms, often wind-driven, and it finds any weak flashing detail on Mount Dora rooflines quickly.

Combine that rainfall with inland humidity and UV, and Mount Dora roofs have a lot working on them. We inspect the details first: flashing, penetrations, the roof edge.

Storm exposure

Storms Mount Dora Has Answered To

Mount Dora sits in the inland storm region, and the record is specific: Irma (2017) — crossed Central Florida as a hurricane; minor to moderate damage to many structures, widespread tree damage (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017). Milton (2024) — hurricane-force gusts in Central Florida near the track; 14.83" of rain recorded near Orlando (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024).

After any of those, the useful thing a homeowner can do is document from the ground: photograph what is visible, note the date, check ceilings that night and again a week later. Then get a professional assessment before small openings become interior damage. We run storm routes across Lake County and put findings in writing with photographs — no scare tactics, no inflated damage lists.

Straight answers

Mount Dora Roofing Questions

How long does a roof installation take?

Typically one to three days for a residential replacement. Complexity adds time — tile systems, steep pitches, multiple layers coming off — and commercial jobs scale with the building. Either way you'll know the expected window up front.

Repair or replace — how do you decide?

Localized damage on a roof with life left: repair. Widespread wear, repeating leaks, or a roof near the end of its lifespan: replacement is often a better value than repeated patching. We put the recommendation in writing with photos so you can decide without pressure.

What does a roof replacement cost in Mount Dora?

It depends on five things: roof size and pitch, tear-off complexity, decking condition once opened, the material system you choose, and the flashing and ventilation details done right. Anyone quoting a number without seeing the roof is guessing. Our estimates are free, line-by-line, and based on an actual inspection.
