We recently bought a new house that was in need of a new roof and other work and came across Universal Roofing & Chimney on Yelp. They were very professional and honest with everything they have done for us. We had them install a new roof and new siding then a few months later new windows. Everything was done on time and within the budget provided. The warranty they provide is also great and Artan was excellent as well to deal with

I have owned my home for more than 40 years. I realize that the roof is the first line of defense against the elements so I had Universal Roofing install a new Owens Corning roof. Of all of the projects that I have done on my home, none have been a better story than the one Universal just completed. From the very beginning, they have been friendly, informative and incredibly professional. That included sales, office personnel and very importantly, Tony who was the project manager of the great crew on the job. This task was completed ahead of schedule with extraordinary professionalism. The debris was all cleaned up nicely, the dumpster quickly removed and my home now has much more curb appeal. The warranty that came with the job is second to none. This is an investment and worth every penny I invested in the project. Universal and Owens Corning is a People, Product and Project team that is impossible to beat! Richard Meyers
Highly recommend! Job well done! From Cory the estimator to Mike the project manager to the office personnel. Everyone was professional, courteous, knowledgeable and hands on! And let’s not forget the guys that labored in this heat and put a roof on in one day! They were awesome! Thank you to each and everyone!!!
I don't normally write reviews this fast I just had my roof start and finished today, yes same day. Universal was very professional from day one. Starting with Archie Simon's professionalism and expertise helping my wife and I decide materials and colors was very grateful. To the delivery of materials yesterday. Excellent. To top it all off today Mr Sebastián Acevedo (Project Manager) and his crew did, in one day, a Superb and very professional job. Very helpful. My wife Maritza and I are extremely grateful for their great job. Is not just about having you sign a contract, is about making sure you are happy. And very happy we are. Would recommend any time. Most definitely FIVE STARS. Congratulations on a job well done 👏
We recently had our roof replaced by Universal Roof & Contracting. The entire process, from estimate through completion, was done in a thorough and professional manner. Cory Callahan, Estimator, and Tony Contreras, Crew Supervisor, were the consumate professionals. They explained the process before the project began and were available to answer any of our concerns as it progressed. Tony was on site every day to insure a problem free job. The crew was pleasant and left the site clean every day. Extra effort was made on final day to insure that no debris or nails were left behind. All in all, a very professional and capable group to work with.
Universal Roof and Contracting has done a superior job repairing and replacing my 33 year old shingle roof. Every person that I dealt with was professional, knowledgeable and experienced. I chose Universal because they are the Orlando area Owen’s Corning Platinum Installer. The 25 year warranty and the Exclusive Loyalty Program were additional incentive to hire Universal. From the beginning, Andy Sims in sales was a patient and godly young man who worked with me for over 5 months to nail down exactly what I could expect and what I wanted from the company. The price was fairly valued for the work done and he checked in with me once the job started. Thank you Andy! Next was the project manager Brian Bauer who contacted me to walk the project and climb the roof and explain the difference between roof repair/replacement and craftsmanship and why something I wanted done, would be inferior. He explained the difference in sloping and drainage that his team would complete. As it turns out, Universal employs craftsmen who take pride in their work. 3 days before the project began, Brian brought his project supervisor, Anderson Gomez and the crew leader Edgar to climb and walk the project. I was told that Anderson was the best…. I jokingly asked him if he was the best and he said, “ they say I am”. I appreciated his humility. As the project progressed, I found out why they referred to him as the best… because he has an eye for detail and expects the crew to do the job right the first time. Every detail that I expected was surpassed! All additional work to be done was noted and explained with appropriate pricing. Additional charges were well within reason for the scope of the project. Thank you Anderson! Knowing the craftsmanship of repairs I witnessed and quality of installation that I saw, I expect a very long service life of this Owens Corning installation by Universal Roof and Contractor. Without reservation, I wholeheartedly endorse Universal and these employees particularly: Andy, Brian, Anderson and Edgar.
Universal Roofing was referred to us by my broker who manages my 401k. After interviewing 5 different roofing companies, Universal stood out as the best of the quotes we received. Their salesman Justin Feb gave us a very professional presentation and detailed explanations of the whole process. He was here for 2 hours and answered all of our questions. Within 4 weeks instead of the 6-8 weeks estimate, the roofing materials were delivered and the project was started and completed in a day and a half. Project supervisor Mike Ramos was totally transparent throughout the installation and we received continuous updates and communications during the whole process. The roofing crew was very professional and courteous. Watching them clean up after the roof was completed was incredible. They were so meticulous in picking up every piece of debris and especially careful to sweep the entire yard and gardens for any loose nails that were removed during the tear down of the old roof. Pictures of the few damaged areas of the old subroof that needed replacing were shared with us and any extra costs were provided that our contract did not cover. We are very pleased with the new roof and highly recommend Universal Roofing Contractors and their entire team. Well done Universal.
Everything from this company been great ,Corey was great explaining and quoting the roof and after the job was asigned to MR Anderson on the site everything went fast ,safe and clean. Mr.Anderson was very professional, polite, quick solving questions and situation that arise ,always on time and available for questions. Also very careful ,and attentive to the workers on the heat,as a US army veteran I will say,MR Anderson beside all that and bilingual is an example of leadership.Keep the Great work.Lasr but not least Raven Montero great link between site manager company and owner.Great team work. Thanks again
This company is very impressive!!!! Very responsive and did great work! During the selling of this home, the inspector revealed some roof issues as our gutter installers caused some minor damage to a few shingles 3 years ago. Damian, from Universal Roofing came out and made all repairs “under warranty” without hesitation. VERY IMPRESSED WITH THIS COMPANY and always loved our new roof!!!!!

Universal Roof & Contracting serves DeLand with every major roofing service — repair, replacement, inspections, storm response, gutters, and all four mainstream roof systems — from our Greater Orlando office. Family-owned since 1993, BBB-accredited with an A+ rating, and Owens Corning Platinum Preferred. This page is the whole picture in one place; every section links to the full service behind it.
What DeLand Does to a Roof
Roofs across the Daytona area answer to three things, all year, every year. Here's what each one does — with the numbers behind it.
Sun
Strong sun breaks down shingle asphalt and fades finishes over time, so Florida roofs need regular checks.
Humidity
Inland Florida trades salt for humidity: algae grows on shaded slopes, and poor attic ventilation traps heat and moisture under the roof.
Storms
Summer squall lines and the occasional named storm bring hard, wind-driven rain that finds every weak detail.
51.45"
annual rainfall at the Orlando Intl Ap station
57%
of it falls June through September
8.05"
in June alone — the peak month

Roof Repair in DeLand
Roof damage in DeLand often starts small and moves fast once water finds a path. Catching it early is the whole game.

Our repair crews cover Volusia County year-round. We fix what you called about, then check the surrounding field, flashing, and penetrations so a second surprise isn't waiting. If a repair is all your roof needs, that's what we'll tell you.
For active leaks we handle emergency calls: tarp or temporary seal first, then a documented permanent repair once weather clears — with photos of what we found and what we did.
Shingles gone after a blow
Wind takes the weakest tabs first. A same-month repair keeps the deck dry underneath.
Granules in the gutters
Shingle surfaces shedding — the field is aging, and it's time to watch it.
A stain that wasn't there
Interior spots mean the leak has a head start — water travels the deck before it drops.
Flashing and fastener wear
A common leak point, and one Florida weather works on early.
Roof Replacement
What actually drives a replacement quote — and how concealed damage is handled if tear-off uncovers it.

A completed Universal replacement — one to three days on most homes.
A replacement here isn't a shingle swap — it's a system: decking inspected once opened, underlayment and ventilation installed to the manufacturer's actual specification, flashing detailed at every transition. That's what lets an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred contractor (fewer than 1% of roofing contractors hold the tier) back the work with warranties most roofers can't offer.
You see the whole scope line by line before signing, and the approved price is the built price unless tear-off uncovers concealed damage no one could see — which you approve before we fix it. Most DeLand homes are finished in one to three days. If the roof edge is also near end-of-life, we'll tell you, and doing soffit, fascia, and gutters with the roof saves a second mobilization.
Size, pitch & complexity
Cut-up roofs with dormers and valleys take longer than simple gables — and price accordingly.
Tear-off & decking
How many layers come up, and what the decking looks like once exposed. You approve anything it reveals.
The material system
Shingle, metal, tile, or slate — specified for Florida exposure, not upsold.
Flashing & ventilation
The details that separate a code-minimum job from one that reaches its rated life.
Every DeLand replacement starts with the free inspection.
Roof Inspections
In DeLand we recommend checking your roof twice a year, in spring and fall, plus after any major storm. Our professional inspection is free, with a written report you keep either way.
Field & fasteners
Wear, granule loss, and fastener condition across the whole covering.
Flashing & penetrations
Common leak points, so we check every boot, valley, and transition.
The roof edge
Soffit, fascia, and gutters for rot, separation, and pest entry.
The attic side
Moisture staining, ventilation problems, and daylight where there shouldn't be any.
What you get is a documented condition file: photos, findings, remaining-life assessment, in writing, free. We built the process for homeowners across the Daytona area who want evidence instead of sales pressure — many inspections end with a clean bill and a watch list, and the report belongs to you either way.

Storm Damage in DeLand
Being inland doesn't excuse a roof in DeLand. Irma crossed the middle of the state as a hurricane, and Milton brought hurricane-force gusts to Central Florida. After it passes, a five-minute ground check tells you whether to call.
01 Scan from the ground
Lifted or missing shingles across the field, sagging lines at ridge and edges.
02 Check the gutters
Granule wash-out after a storm means the surface took a beating.
03 Walk the yard
Blown-off material in the grass is the roof telling you where to look.
04 Look up inside
Ceilings and closet corners: small openings let water reach the decking.
05 Note the date and call
Photograph what you can see safely; we put findings in writing with photos.

Irma
more than 7,000 homes damaged in Brevard County; hurricane-force gusts and record flooding around Jacksonville (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017)
We bring same-week assessments across Volusia County, emergency tarping when the roof needs immediate protection, and a written, photographed damage report — what happened and what fixing it involves, no scare tactics. Material choice is storm strategy too: every system carries its own tested wind rating, so we show you the rating for the exact product before you choose.
Residential Roofing
Asphalt shingle is the default on many DeLand homes, but the default isn't automatically the right answer for your house.

64.4% of occupied homes in DeLand are owner-occupied, and the median owner-occupied home value is $330,900 (U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, 2020–2024). Ours is the math of protecting that investment: the right system, installed to specification, maintained on a schedule.
We install every mainstream system — shingle, metal, tile, and flat — so the recommendation follows your house and budget, not whichever material a contractor happens to sell. The full comparison is below.
The house & neighborhood
Age, style, and what the street is built around — a roof has to belong where it lives.
Your ownership horizon
Selling in five years and staying thirty produce different right answers.
Budget, now vs. 30 years
Upfront cost against lifetime cost — repairs, energy, and how many more roofs you'll buy.
Installation quality
The same materials last longer or fail early depending on underlayment, ventilation, and flashing work.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Commercial Roofing
A commercial roof in DeLand protects inventory, equipment, and people, and it is built under the Florida Building Code, rated among the strongest of the hurricane-coast states by IBHS.

The right system follows the building — deck construction, equipment loads, drainage, and how long you're holding it. White TPO reflects heat and helps with cooling costs; properly fastened metal performs well in high winds; modified bitumen remains a proven choice on the right deck.
What keeps any of them performing is cadence: inspections every year and after every storm, clear drains, prompt small repairs. We run that cadence on a maintenance plan with documentation you keep.
The 25% rule
If more than 25% of a roof section is repaired or replaced within 12 months, the whole section must meet current code, unless the roof was built to the 2007 Florida Building Code or later.
Licensing & permits
Commercial roof repairs and installations require a Florida-licensed contractor, and most need a permit from the local building department.
System choice
TPO for energy efficiency; metal for hurricane resistance and lifespan; modified bitumen where the deck calls for it.
Maintenance cadence
Annual and post-storm inspections, clear drains, prompt membrane repairs — where commercial roofs are won or lost.
Gutters, Soffit & Fascia
The roof edge is a common starting point for water damage in DeLand, and it can fail quietly for years before it shows.

Fix the contained stuff, replace the far-gone stuff, and bundle edge work with any roof replacement — one mobilization instead of two. Seamless aluminum gutters carry our rainfall with the fewest joints to fail; vinyl soffit and aluminum fascia resist what the air here does to lesser materials.
Soft or spongy fascia
The material underneath is already compromised — past the repair window.
Stains on exterior walls
Water escaping the drainage path and running where it shouldn't.
Sagging, overflowing gutters
Chronic overflow usually means repairs are no longer keeping up.
Rust at the seams
Sectional gutters fail at their joints — seamless aluminum has far fewer of them.

| System | Realistic Florida life | Wind rating (installed right) | Cost tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal (standing seam) | Varies by product; ask for the warranty term | Product-specific; we show you the rating | $$$ | Longevity, storms, energy bills |
| Architectural shingle | About 20 years | Class H shingles: rated for design wind speeds up to 194 mph | $ | Value, fast storm repairs |
| Tile (clay/concrete) | Over 50 years | High, code-driven | $$$ | Permanence, the Florida look |
| Metlok (only at Universal) | 50-year limited lifetime warranty | 180+ mph tested wind rating | $$$ | Longevity, high-wind exposure |
What moves every quote regardless of material: pitch and complexity, the product tier within the material, specialist labor where tile demands it, and structural reinforcement when weight requires it. Florida law also requires insurers to offer premium credits for wind-resistant construction features — a wind mitigation inspection documents what your roof qualifies for.

DeLand Roofing Questions
How long do roofs last in DeLand?
Shingle: about 20 years. Tile: more than 50 with care, per a National Association of Home Builders study. Metal depends on the product, so ask for its warranty term. Installation quality decides which end of the range your roof lands on.
Repair or replace — how do you decide?
Repair when the damage is local and the roof has life left. Replace when wear is systemic — repeating leaks, widespread granule loss, a field past its span. We photograph what we find and put the recommendation on paper, so you're deciding on evidence rather than a pitch.
What should I do right after storm damage?
From the ground: photograph the damage you can see, note when it happened, and check ceilings that night and again in a week. Then get it professionally assessed — we cover Volusia County with same-week storm visits, emergency tarping, and written, photographed reports.
Can a handyman repair a roof in Florida?
Florida's licensing agency says no: roof repairs and roof installations require a state license. Before anyone touches your roof, verify the state license and the insurance behind it. We hold CCC057165 & CBC1258484 and full coverage.
What does a roof replacement cost in DeLand?
It depends on five things: roof size and pitch, tear-off complexity, decking condition once opened, the material system you choose, and the flashing and ventilation details done right. Anyone quoting a number without seeing the roof is guessing. Our estimates are free, line-by-line, and based on an actual inspection.
Is the inspection really free?
Yes — photos, honest findings, and a written condition report, free, whether or not you hire us for anything. Many inspections end with 'you're fine, here's what to watch.'
How long does a roof installation take?
One to three days for most DeLand homes, start to magnet-swept yard. Tile, steep, and cut-up roofs run longer; commercial ranges from days to weeks by size. You get a realistic window before work starts — and a heads-up if weather moves it.
What time of year is best for roof work here?
Exterior work runs year-round in Florida, but fall is the sweet spot for big projects — easier on crews and materials, and it puts a sound roof over you before the next storm season instead of after it.
