Rich Adamson from Universal made a horrific experience into a tolerable one. Following hurricane Ian, we needed to get a new roof. Rich fought hard for us all through the insurance process. We ended up having to sue our carrier for coverage of the damage but Rich’s calm demeanor and knowledgeable resources helped us go step by step through the process. We now have a new roof and we couldn’t be happier. I would recommend Universal Roof and Rich to anyone without hesitation.

Universal Roof & contracting came and gave me a quote for my roof I couldn't pass. I had a great experience overall. Universal didn't miss or leave anything out at all. My project manager was Yordanis, He was kind and informed me on anything that happened on the job. My salesman was Dee and explain all different options there were. He was also great and and very informative.
After damage from Milton I met with 4 roofing companies. I opted to go with Universal after discussing my options with Richard Adamson. He laid out clearly what would be needed, and then later returned to go over the selection and explain the warranty etc. Marissa went over the scheduling and what the expected procedures are once they start. She was also very understanding of my issues with my insurer and accommodated a last minute re-schedule. Yordanis had the roofing crew there at sun-up, and they were done by mid-afternoon. Besides the obvious noise, one would be hard pressed to know they had just replaced my roof. Two days later a Pasco county inspector came and gave the all-clear. Two days after that, Yordanis had another crew at my house to install the gutters. I had a couple of queries once all was said and done, and Yordanis was very prompt at returning my texts. All in all, a very expeditious and satisfying process once I got passed the insurance company.
This my 3rd roof. By far, this was the best.Working with Richard from the Tampa office made this a very smooth process.
I had an exceptional experience with this roofing company. From our initial interaction, they demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism, providing clear and precise information. Their responsiveness was a refreshing attribute, always getting back to me in a timely manner and addressing my concerns promptly. What struck me the most was their punctuality. In a field where delays can be quite common, they were consistently on time, which ensured the project stayed on schedule. It's clear they value their clients' time as much as their own. Beyond just doing the job, the team truly went above and beyond. They routinely checked the quality of the work being done, making sure the roof was being installed correctly and according to the highest standards. This showed me that they are not just about completing the job, but rather about delivering the best outcome possible. Their dedication to quality and customer satisfaction really sets them apart. I would strongly recommend this roofing company to anyone who values professionalism, responsiveness, and exceptional workmanship.
Would like to commend project manager Jordanian Segura cannot say enough about the exceptional service from the moment we met professional courteous as well as meticulous . He didn’t make excuses he got it done. He should be valued in the company and known as one to be depended on. He came into this job after completion and rectified the issue without question a true professional Thank you Jordanis Sincerely Mr and Mrs Schneider Port Richey, Fl
They did a very good job and I was very pleased with the overall project.Yordanis The project manager stayed in touch with me throughout the project and after the project was done thank you very much for all your help and assistance. Also want to say Alonso who was onsite was very good and detailed oriented in making sure project was completed according to the specifications. Thank you. Would recommend them.
This company has been amazing to work with as extremely detail oriented and really takes the time to educate their customer on options. Our Project Manager, Thomas McVicker, was an outstanding communicator and responded promptly to any inquiry. Top notch customer service!
We’re very pleased with our new roof that Universal installed. They made the process easy and simple. From our salesman, Ben, to the Project Manager, Jonathan, the back office, and of course, the Crew who installed the roof. The whole Team were very professional and made the experience worthwhile. Ben even stopped by at the end of the installation to make sure we were pleased with the workmanship. Thank you, Ben!

What Plant City Does to a Roof
Roofs across the Tampa Bay area answer to three things, all year, every year. Here's what each one does — with the numbers behind it.
Sun
Strong sun breaks down shingle asphalt and fades finishes over time, so Florida roofs need regular checks.
Humidity
Inland Florida trades salt for humidity: algae grows on shaded slopes, and poor attic ventilation traps heat and moisture under the roof.
Storms
Summer squall lines and the occasional named storm bring hard, wind-driven rain that finds every weak detail.
46.65"
annual rainfall at the St Petersburg Ap station
63%
of it falls June through September
8.39"
in August alone — the peak month

Roof Planning in Plant City’s Historic Districts
Plant City’s historic district design standards include specific guidance for roofs, dormers, skylights and rooftop equipment. They favor retaining repairable historic roof material and features, and consider how replacement materials affect the building’s appearance. Before changing a designated property, ask the city how those standards apply to the proposed work and which review is required. Resolve that question before ordering a different covering or scheduling replacement.
The useful starting point is the roof you actually have. Photograph the main roof, porch, dormers, chimney and visible edges where present. Describe which components will stay and which will change. Ask whether the proposed replacement retains the roof’s form and how new vents or flashing will appear. The roof’s condition and the appearance review should inform the same scope rather than being handled as unrelated conversations.
Not every Plant City property is in a historic district. Confirm designation and current project requirements with the city before assuming that review applies or that it can be skipped. For a property outside those districts, use the same disciplined comparison of quantities, materials and exclusions. If the proposal includes a detached building or a later addition, have it named explicitly so the final work can be checked against what was approved.

Roof Repair in Plant City
Around the Tampa Bay area, the roofs that last aren't the ones that never take damage — they're the ones whose owners caught the damage the same season it happened.

On a Plant City property with historic detailing, ask for a repair plan that identifies the defect and distinguishes sound material from components that need replacement. Compatible repair materials and appearance matter, but the contractor should also explain how the proposed work addresses the source of water entry.
Shingles gone after a blow
Wind takes the weakest tabs first. A same-month repair keeps the deck dry underneath.
Granules in the gutters
Shingle surfaces shedding — the field is aging, and it's time to watch it.
Water marks inside
The drip point is almost never below the entry point. Finding the real path is the job.
Flashing and fastener wear
A common leak point, and one Florida weather works on early.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Roof Replacement
What actually drives a replacement quote — and how concealed damage is handled if tear-off uncovers it.

A completed Universal replacement — one to three days on most homes.
A Plant City replacement schedule should allow for any applicable design review before a different covering or color is ordered. Keep the submitted scope and material references available to the installer. If damaged decking is found, use a written change process rather than assuming the original estimate covered every concealed condition.
Size, pitch & complexity
Cut-up roofs with dormers and valleys take longer than simple gables — and price accordingly.
Tear-off & decking
How many layers come up, and what the decking looks like once exposed. You approve anything it reveals.
The material system
Shingle, metal, tile, or slate — specified for Florida exposure, not upsold.
Flashing & ventilation
The details that separate a code-minimum job from one that reaches its rated life.
Every Plant City replacement starts with the free inspection.
Roof Inspections
A Plant City roof should be checked twice a year, in spring and fall, and after every named storm. Our inspection costs nothing and ends with a written, photographed report either way.
Field & fasteners
Wear, granule loss, and fastener condition across the whole covering.
Flashing & penetrations
Common leak points, so we check every boot, valley, and transition.
The roof edge
Soffit, fascia, and gutters for rot, separation, and pest entry.
The attic side
Moisture staining, ventilation problems, and daylight where there shouldn't be any.
Every inspection ends in writing: photographs of what we found, where it is, and what it means — no driveway verdicts, no pressure. The honest outcome of most Plant City inspections is "you're fine, here's what to watch." When something does need attention, you get it documented with photos, so the decision is yours to make on evidence.

Storm Damage in Plant City
Being inland doesn't excuse a roof in Plant City. Irma crossed the middle of the state as a hurricane, and Milton brought hurricane-force gusts to Central Florida. After it passes, a five-minute ground check tells you whether to call.
01 Scan from the ground
Lifted or missing shingles across the field, sagging lines at ridge and edges.
02 Check the gutters
Granule wash-out after a storm means the surface took a beating.
03 Walk the yard
Blown-off material in the grass is the roof telling you where to look.
04 Look up inside
Ceilings and closet corners: small openings let water reach the decking.
05 Note the date and call
Photograph what you can see safely; we put findings in writing with photos.
Helene
dangerous storm surge into the Gulf coast, including coastal Pinellas (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092024)
Milton
landfall on Siesta Key; 20.40" of rain near St. Petersburg; record crests on the Hillsborough River (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024)
Ian
one of the costliest hurricanes in Florida history; severe wind and flooding across the southwest coast (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092022)
Storm response here works in two speeds: immediate protection (tarps and temporary seals, same visit where access allows) and documented assessment (photographs, findings, and repair scope in writing). No scare tactics, no inflated damage lists. We have been roofing in Florida since 1993.
Residential Roofing
Drive Plant City and you'll see many shingle roofs. Sometimes that's the right call; sometimes it's just the default. Four things decide which.

66.4% of occupied homes in Plant City are owner-occupied, and the median owner-occupied home value is $291,800 (U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, 2020–2024). Ours is the math of protecting that investment: the right system, installed to specification, maintained on a schedule.
We install every mainstream system — shingle, metal, tile, and flat — so the recommendation follows your house and budget, not whichever material a contractor happens to sell. The full comparison is below.
The house & neighborhood
Age, style, and what the street is built around — a roof has to belong where it lives.
Your ownership horizon
Selling in five years and staying thirty produce different right answers.
Budget, now vs. 30 years
Upfront cost against lifetime cost — repairs, energy, and how many more roofs you'll buy.
Installation quality
The same materials last longer or fail early depending on underlayment, ventilation, and flashing work.
Commercial Roofing
A commercial roof in Plant City protects inventory, equipment, and people, and it is built under the Florida Building Code, rated among the strongest of the hurricane-coast states by IBHS.

Commercial decisions in Plant City come down to decades-math: purchase price against energy costs, storm resilience, and maintenance across the building's life. We'll show the comparison for your specific building rather than defaulting to whichever membrane is on the truck.
Then maintenance decides everything: annual and post-storm inspections, drains kept clear, membrane and flashing repairs done promptly. Our plans put all of it on a documented schedule so the roof's history is always current and provable.
Project-specific code review
Confirm the applicable requirements using the roof’s permit history, existing assembly and proposed work. A damage percentage alone does not settle the scope.
Licensing & permits
Commercial roof repairs and installations require a Florida-licensed contractor, and most need a permit from the local building department.
System choice
TPO for energy efficiency; metal for hurricane resistance and lifespan; modified bitumen where the deck calls for it.
Maintenance cadence
Annual and post-storm inspections, clear drains, prompt membrane repairs — where commercial roofs are won or lost.
Gutters, Soffit & Fascia
The roof edge is a common starting point for water damage in Plant City, and it can fail quietly for years before it shows.

Fix the contained stuff, replace the far-gone stuff, and bundle edge work with any roof replacement — one mobilization instead of two. Seamless aluminum gutters carry our rainfall with the fewest joints to fail; vinyl soffit and aluminum fascia resist what the air here does to lesser materials.
Soft or spongy fascia
The material underneath is already compromised — past the repair window.
Stains on exterior walls
Water escaping the drainage path and running where it shouldn't.
Sagging, overflowing gutters
Chronic overflow usually means repairs are no longer keeping up.
Rust at the seams
Sectional gutters fail at their joints — seamless aluminum has far fewer of them.
Want eyes on your roof this week?
Free inspection, honest findings, zero pressure — most end with "you're fine."

| System | Realistic Florida life | Wind rating (installed right) | Cost tier | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metal (standing seam) | Varies by product; ask for the warranty term | Product-specific; we show you the rating | $$$ | Longevity, storms, energy bills |
| Architectural shingle | About 20 years | Class H shingles: rated for design wind speeds up to 194 mph | $ | Value, fast storm repairs |
| Tile (clay/concrete) | Over 50 years | High, code-driven | $$$ | Permanence, the Florida look |
| Metlok (only at Universal) | 50-year limited lifetime warranty | 180+ mph tested wind rating | $$$ | Longevity, high-wind exposure |
What moves every quote regardless of material: pitch and complexity, the product tier within the material, specialist labor where tile demands it, and structural reinforcement when weight requires it. Florida law also requires insurers to offer premium credits for wind-resistant construction features — a wind mitigation inspection documents what your roof qualifies for.

Plant City Roofing Questions
When should I check historic review for a Plant City roof?
Before committing to visible changes on a property in a historic district. The city publishes historic district design standards; confirm the property, scope and required review with Planning and Zoning.
What roof information is useful for a Plant City design submission?
Current photographs, a description or drawing of the work, and proposed product names, colors or samples. Include visible roof features that are being retained or changed.
Does being in Plant City automatically mean historic restrictions?
No. Determine whether the actual property is designated or lies in an applicable district. Do not infer the approval requirements from the city name or building age alone.
What should a Plant City roof replacement estimate include?
Look for the measured roof areas, chosen covering and underlayment, included edge and penetration work, disposal, and any exclusions. Ask how concealed damage will be documented and approved before extra work proceeds.
Can you assess a repair before recommending replacement?
Yes. An inspection helps distinguish a contained problem from wider deterioration. Ask which materials can remain, what the proposed repair addresses and whether any areas could not be inspected.
Is the roof inspection in Plant City free?
Yes. Universal offers a free roof inspection with photos and a written condition report, without an obligation to buy roofing work. Request a visit through the inspection form or call to discuss the property.
How should I plan the roof-work schedule?
Confirm material selection, access and any applicable approvals first. Ask for a project-specific window and how weather or concealed conditions could affect it. Do not assume every roof can be finished in the same number of days.
What information helps when I book a visit?
The property address, the building type, a description of the concern and any previous roof records. Tell us about separate additions, access arrangements or an association contact before the inspection.
