Marianela J.

Universal Roof & contracting came and gave me a quote for my roof I couldn't pass. I had a great experience overall. Universal didn't miss or leave anything out at all. My project manager was Yordanis, He was kind and informed me on anything that happened on the job. My salesman was Dee and explain all different options there were. He was also great and and very informative.

The crew and project manager have been great. They have followed up with any questions we had even after the job was done. They ran into rain so it took a little longer than we expected but no fault of theirs!

Where we work

About Gibsonton

Gibsonton is a small unincorporated community in Hillsborough County, about 10 miles south of Tampa on the east side of Hillsborough Bay. Sometimes called Gibtown, it was once a haven for circus and carnival professionals, who often spent the off season there, and many made it their permanent home.

Special zoning once let residents keep exotic animals, circus trailers and carnival rides in their front yards. A monument in the community honors Al and Jeanie Tomaini, performers who settled there in the late 1940s; Al served as a volunteer fire chief and Jeanie as the local postmaster. The 2020 Census counted 18,566 residents.

The housing stock

Gibsonton Homes and What Their Roofs Face

The weather those roofs answer to is measurable. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the St Petersburg Ap station put annual rainfall at 46.65 inches, with 63% of it falling June through September and 8.39 inches in August alone. Most of that rain arrives in summer storms, often wind-driven, and it finds any weak flashing detail on Gibsonton rooflines quickly.

Combine that rainfall with coastal salt and UV, and Gibsonton roofs have a lot working on them. We inspect the details first: flashing, penetrations, the roof edge.

The named systems

Storms Gibsonton Has Answered To

Gibsonton sits in the Gulf storm region, and the record is specific: Helene (2024) — dangerous storm surge into the Gulf coast, including coastal Pinellas (NOAA/NHC TCR AL092024). Milton (2024) — landfall on Siesta Key; 20.40" of rain near St. Petersburg; record crests on the Hillsborough River (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024).

After any of those, the useful thing a homeowner can do is document from the ground: photograph what is visible, note the date, check ceilings that night and again a week later. Then get a professional assessment before small openings become interior damage. We run storm routes across Hillsborough County and put findings in writing with photographs — no scare tactics, no inflated damage lists.

Gibsonton Roofing Questions

Can a handyman repair a roof in Florida?

Not legally. Florida's licensing agency says roof repairs and roof installations require a state license. Ask for the license number before hiring anyone; ours are CCC057165 & CBC1258484.

How long does a roof installation take?

Day one is usually tear-off and dry-in; most homes are shingled and swept by day two or three. Tile, steep pitches, and extra layers stretch the schedule, and weather gets a veto — but you'll have the realistic window before we start, and updates if it moves.

Repair or replace — how do you decide?

Two questions decide it: how contained is the damage, and how much life does the field have left? Contained plus years remaining equals repair; spreading wear or a roof in its last stretch equals a replacement conversation, since patch money on a dying roof rarely buys much time. Either way, our recommendation comes documented.
