Universal Roof and Contracting installed our roof in 2014. This past week the high 75 mph sustained winds that we had for 24 hours from Hurricane Ian lifted the cap shingles off of our ridge vent, which was totally understandable given the intensity and length of the storm. We called Universal and they had an inspector come out to look at the roof. Nick Walker came out to inspect the roof and he was up there for a long time. I heard pounding and realized he was fixing the roof!!!!!! This he did without the estimate of the cost and the go ahead from us, but I got out the checkbook relieved to pay him whatever his fee, but he flat out refused to take any money for this service. I should mention the fact that our pool cage caught all of the shingles enabled him to not have to order new shingles, but we did not expect him to fix the roof on demand like this. This is typical of the service we have had from the company in the past, but also typical of the people of our community when so many have been impacted by a hurricane. I'd like to give a big shout out to Nick for taking one more worry off our our minds as we head out this weekend also to help others impacted.
We had a great experience with our roof replacement. Robert and Tony were friendly and attentive as well as the rest of the staff we came into contact with. Definitely recommend them for your roofing needs.
We used this company to check out our roof after hurricane Ian. They were extremely polite and professional from booking the appointment, to following up before arrival, on site/inspecting, and ending the deal. They didn't try and oversell, were factual, well documented, and awesome. We're definitely going to use and recommend them for roofing needs.
We are very happy with the whole process of getting a roof replacement for our home by Universal Roof and Contracting. Robert Collins gave us a fair and complete proposal, and took time to cover all of the details. Bailey Hinshaw, Project Mgr. was excellent in being here during the day of the install and answering all of the questions we had. Bailey went above and beyond to make sure we were confident that everything was done properly. He is very professional and doesn’t miss a beat. He is definitely an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10. Wow! Our 17 year old roof replacement by Universal Roof started with Sales Manager Justin Feb coming to the house and explaining the entire process in detail. He could not have been nicer or more informative. Michael Ramos was assigned as our Project Manager over a crew of about 10 men. Michael was the best. He and his crew arrived at 6:15am and worked straight through until the job was done around 5:30, just taking one lunch break. Michael explained all the details. I highly recommend Universal Roof and Contracting.
We recently had our shingles replaced by this outstanding company. Special thanks to Justin Feb, Damian Crawford, and Spence ( job supervisor) for their dedication and professionalism. No questions were too small, communication for every step of the process was awesome, and the quality of the work excellent! We highly recommend this company!
We were very pleased with the entire process of getting our roof replaced. In particular, Sebastian and his crew were fantastic. Sebastian gave us great explanations about the work being performed and changes to the roof venting. All the work was done in just over a day and when they left, the yard and house area were completely clean. Thank you!
Cory, Raven, Anderson a the whole team were great! The job was scheduled and completed in a timely and professional manner, the cost was fair, and the communication was great. I definitely recommend them. Ask for Cory.

Protecting the Character of a Gotha Home
Orange County identifies Gotha as a rural settlement and a historic preservation district. Its community profile connects the settlement to landmarks including Palm Cottage Gardens, the former Fishers Country Store and the community center that began as a schoolhouse. That local context is a reason to look carefully at a property’s designation before choosing visible exterior changes; it is not evidence that every Gotha house is historic.
For a roof project, separate three questions: what is failing, what material is appropriate for the building, and whether any preservation or association review applies to this address. Bring existing roof photos, the proposed color and profile, and a description of any changes to visible features. If the home has a porch, dormer or chimney, explain whether the proposal retains its shape and appearance. Confirm the applicable review with Orange County before ordering a different look.
A repair-first assessment can also be useful when the existing appearance is worth retaining. Ask the inspector to distinguish an isolated flashing defect from wear throughout the covering and to explain any limitations in matching the existing material. The decision should be tied to the building’s condition and the proposed scope. A town’s history cannot tell us the age of a particular roof, its remaining life or whether replacement is necessary.

Repair or Replacement for Your Gotha Property
For a Gotha home with distinctive roof details, photograph the porch junctions, chimney and visible edges before planning repairs. Ask what can be retained and where a replacement component will be visible. A compatible repair still needs to address the underlying cause; matching a color does not by itself resolve water entry.
If you want to change a Gotha roof’s material or profile, keep samples and a written scope together for any applicable design review. Include proposed vent locations and the treatment of visible flashing. Order materials after confirming the project’s requirements so the installation and approved appearance stay aligned.
About Gotha
Gotha is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Orange County. Henry Hempel founded it in 1885 and named it after his hometown in Germany. It has been protected as a rural settlement for decades and as a historical preservation district since 1995.
Along its main street are Palm Cottage Gardens, the former home of Dr. Henry Nehrling, where Nehrling Gardens now runs an education center and botanical garden; Zion Lutheran Church, founded in 1915; and a community center that began as a one-room schoolhouse. The 2020 Census counted 2,217 residents.
Not sure which of these your roof needs?
The free inspection answers it with photos and a written report.
Gotha Homes and What Their Roofs Face
The weather those roofs answer to is measurable. NOAA's 1991–2020 normals for the Orlando Intl Ap station put annual rainfall at 51.45 inches, with 57% of it falling June through September and 8.05 inches in June alone. Most of that rain arrives in summer storms, often wind-driven, and it finds any weak flashing detail on Gotha rooflines quickly.
Humidity, sun, and that rainfall all work on Gotha roofs, and edges, penetrations and fasteners are where we start every inspection.
Storms Gotha Has Answered To
Gotha sits in the inland storm region, and the record is specific: Irma (2017) — crossed Central Florida as a hurricane; minor to moderate damage to many structures, widespread tree damage (NOAA/NHC TCR AL112017). Milton (2024) — hurricane-force gusts in Central Florida near the track; 14.83" of rain recorded near Orlando (NOAA/NHC TCR AL142024).
After any of those, the useful thing a homeowner can do is document from the ground: photograph what is visible, note the date, check ceilings that night and again a week later. Then get a professional assessment before small openings become interior damage. We run storm routes across Orange County and put findings in writing with photographs — no scare tactics, no inflated damage lists.

Universal Roof & Contracting has been family-owned since 1993 — state-licensed (CCC057165 & CBC1258484), fully insured, BBB-accredited with an A+ rating, and an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, a tier held by fewer than 1% of roofing contractors. Estimates are free and itemized; the inspection comes back as photographs and a written report you keep either way.
Gotha Roofing Questions
Is every Gotha home a designated historic property?
No conclusion about an individual home follows from the community’s historic character. Check the address and any applicable district or property designation with Orange County before planning visible exterior changes.
What should I bring when discussing a Gotha roof’s appearance?
Photos of the current covering and roof features, proposed material and color samples, and a description of what will change. Include porch roofs, dormers and chimneys when they are part of the work.
Can a Gotha roof be repaired while keeping its existing look?
Sometimes. The condition, extent of damage and availability of compatible materials decide that. Ask for an assessment that explains both the repair method and any visible differences.
What should a Gotha roof replacement estimate include?
Look for the measured roof areas, chosen covering and underlayment, included edge and penetration work, disposal, and any exclusions. Ask how concealed damage will be documented and approved before extra work proceeds.
Can you assess a repair before recommending replacement?
Yes. An inspection helps distinguish a contained problem from wider deterioration. Ask which materials can remain, what the proposed repair addresses and whether any areas could not be inspected.
Is the roof inspection in Gotha free?
Yes. Universal offers a free roof inspection with photos and a written condition report, without an obligation to buy roofing work. Request a visit through the inspection form or call to discuss the property.
How should I plan the roof-work schedule?
Confirm material selection, access and any applicable approvals first. Ask for a project-specific window and how weather or concealed conditions could affect it. Do not assume every roof can be finished in the same number of days.
What information helps when I book a visit?
The property address, the building type, a description of the concern and any previous roof records. Tell us about separate additions, access arrangements or an association contact before the inspection.
