Recent weather updates report that Tropical Storm Colin has strengthened in the Gulf of Mexico and will bring the threat of heavy rain to parts of Florida and the Southeast as early as today or Tuesday. According to the Weather Channel, as of 11 this morning, with maximum sustained winds at around 50 mph, Tropical Storm Colin is located about 225 miles southwest of Apalachicola, Florida, or about 285 miles west-southwest of Tampa, Florida, and is moving to the north-northeast at 16 mph. Tropical storm warnings have been issued for portions of the Gulf Coast of Florida from Indian Pass to Englewood, as well as portions of the Atlantic Coast from South Santee River (South Carolina) to Sebastian Inlet (Florida). Heavy rain with up to 8 inches and tropical-storm-force winds, high surf and coastal flooding are also possible as early as this afternoon.
