1993 – 2013

Universal Roof & Contracting celebrates its twentieth year of business in the Central Florida community! Looking back, we see how it all began, and how far we have come as a family business serving Florida homeowners and businesses.
Ken Mellick, CEO of Universal Roof & Contracting, started in the construction business working for his uncle at a summer job during high school. After five years of service in the Army and a tour in Vietnam where he earned a Silver Star for gallantry in action, a Bronze Star, and an Army Commendation medal for Valor, Ken married his wife, Joan, and began building a family of six children who eventually took their places in the family business.
Ken became a Building Inspector and then started his own construction company. He built custom homes for almost two decades. His eldest son Jared, now President of Universal Roof & Contracting, followed his dad to job sites throughout his childhood, acquiring valuable industry skills. 1989 the Mellick family moved to Orlando, and in February of 1993 Ken and Jared founded the family business Universal Roofing Group, now Universal Roof & Contracting.
Designing and attending to company business, Joan complimented the company, and it wasn’t long before Stacy joined the family effort overseeing the Accounting Department, and then Aaron who now serves as the VP of Operations. Jade and Heather also serve vital rolls – Jade oversees the Collections Department, and Heather applies her talents as a Designer and Office Manager.
In the spring of 1999 a local radio station enlisted the expertise of Ken and Jared for their weekend home improvement talk show. It was the Mellicks’ extensive knowledge of home improvement and construction coupled with their engaging personalities that have garnered them a loyal following on the “In The House” show now airing Sunday afternoons at 2 on FM 96.5 WDBO Radio.
From Ken Mellick to each of member of the growing team, personal integrity and high standards have propelled Universal Roof & Contracting to a leading position in the Central Florida community and the Construction and Roofing Industries. They share Ken’s passion for quality workmanship and superior customer service and are honored to serve the community with excellence.
